“Great potential but sadly lacking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013 via mobile

This is a lovely spot but pretty isolated. The rooms were ok and the general ambiance of the the place nice. However the lack of service and the rude reception/restaurant/bar manager made our stay here far from pleasant. We forfeited a nights accommodation and left early for Pakse due to his rudeness. This left absolutely no guests there!!!! I think that says a lot about this tired , isolated and expensive place.

This place was 240,000 kip for a double room with breakfast. It was probably worth around 150,000. On the rest of our Plateau trip we were paying average 60,000kip. There was a bit of a scam at the entrance where you are told you have to pay 5,000kip each to get in to the waterfall and a further 3,000 kip to park your bike, we have been traveling for a long while so politely said we would come back and pay if we needed to the man was very insistent but we went in and turned out that we did not need to pay, but the gentleman on reception said if we had already paid he could not give a refund. We were tired and we needed a shower after 6hours riding the bike so we checked in.
The rooms are tired and we had a big mould patch in the main room. The bathroom was okay and the shower was tepid, which was okay as we showered early before the air temperature cooled.
We went into the restaurant for food. It is very expensive for Loas but we were hungry. I ordered a curry, vegetarian. It was served to me, small portion and had only cabbage and carrot.... that was it, nothing else, no other veg.... was pretty awful. Mostly cabbage..... We went out of the resort and bought some bottles of beer and returned to sit on our veranda and have a snack and a beer. The beer in the restaurant was 18,000kip. Every where else we have been (and at the restaurants on the road outside the resort) the large bottles of beer Loas is 10,000 kip. Easy maths... bring your own in!

We suspect this place has undergone a change of management recently as we booked based on strong reviews from friends. The bungalow was nice, although quite cold at night, but our major problem was with the food. This was of a very poor standard and not the quality of restaurant to match the $42 per night accommodation. While the menu was priced very reasonably we would have preferred to spend a bit more to have something freshly prepared and not out of a packet. The steak (named Tad Fane Steak) was dry and very tough, not what you expect from a signature dish in a higher end resort. With some work on this major failing we would recommend this place but as it is you have to make sure you have a motorbike to take at least your lunch elsewhere.

Room Tip: Aim to get into bungalows 7 or 8 for the best views and morning sunshine on the porch.

...but as mentioned in other reviews, the whole place is a bit run down. We got one of the family rooms with beautiful views onto waterfall, forest and the valley below from the veranda. The room was quite spacious, with a double and a single bed (like in many other hotels in asia, probably a bit on the hard side for some), comfy towels and free water bottles. There was air ventilation to the outside only, no fan nor a/c - but it was not a big problem as the days were not that hot in december and the nights cool enough. The solid dark wood furniture showed some wear, as well as the tiled floor and the timber of the walls. However unlike other reviewers we had no issues with the bathroom, it was clean and everything worked as it should. The meals and the breakfast in the restaurant were ok, but nothing special. The service was a bit slow but overall friendly. You certainly pay for the location, but the view and the sounds of the waterfall at night make it still worth staying there. A renovation/updating of the rooms would make it a perfect place to stay.

Room Tip: -The family room in the last of the bungalows are the only ones which have the described view on one...

We came here with some friends just a few days ago. The location is great, but the rooms are expensive and we had some bad surprises: a beehive in the first room (we change immediatly) and a rat in the second one, who woke us up at 1am... The waiters at the restaurant are terrible also (they clearly show they don't care about you) and the food is bad. The only good thing in the resort (except for the view) is the trek. But it is the worst place I have staied in Lao regarding service and pricing....

The setting of this small resort is just fantastic. Just opposite the beautifull Tad Fane Waterfalls. The resort upstairs restaurant has a fantastic outlook on the falls. In the evening when its cooler they may have a small fireplace which ad to the atmosphere. Food & drinks are very good. The bungalows are modest with just the basic furnitures. Bathrooms with hot showers. From the resort you can do some different (half day trekking) for reasonable prices.

I stayed here with my son during our trip to Laos and Cambodia. The people are very friendly and really take care of you. The cabins are very simple with two or three beds and a bathroom and shower. The shower has warm water which is a blessing after a 4 hours trekking. The beds are very, very hard (every time you sit down on the bed, your are surprised by how hard it is :-)). At the reception they can organize tours through the bolaven including driver, etc, for a reasonable price (checked price later with our tour operator and the price they quote is not too high). The view from the cabin and even more so from the restaurant is second to none. The view on the Tad Fane waterfall is great and the constant sound of falling water is tranquilizing. Probably the best place to stay if you want to stay within the park and close to nature and waterfalls.
