I recently hosted a family reunion at Cavallini's near the end of Jan 2013. We vetted 3 or 4 different locations based on food quaity, management cooperation, location, price, and uniqueness. I can't say enough about this place as a banquet venue. The owner, Norm, goes out of his way to be accommodating. He is professional and experienced. His staff are well-trained, unobtrusive & efficient. The food was made fresh, bountiful & hot, plus well-prepared & displayed. Tired of luncheon & dinner events, we wanted a private venue with a private brunch in the room. Cavallini's was one of the few places to offer us both and at an affordable price. In addition to their great coffee, various juices, yogurts, bagels, toast, & danish, we enjoyed sausage links & patties, bacon, real scrambled eggs (not powdered junk) with the classy addition of white cheddar. There was also french bread french toast, an abundance of fresh fruit, and excellent parsleyed country potatoes.
Convenient to expressways and located in the heart of olde Tinley Park, Cavallini's is new, but built in the Craftsman-era style down to the exacting details. Monday-Sat., it is open for breakfast from 5:15-1pm to locals-in-the-know & Metra train commuters. However, it closes to the public for private functions during certain hours on the weekend. We chose a Sunday brunch event, but luncheon & dinner menus are also offered. The room features large, mullioned windows and an open-air observation tower (weather permitting) to watch the commuter trains glide through the station. A large toy train, with soundtrack, circles the rafters when an adult chooses to lift the child high enough to press the button. These features alone kept the young ones from being bored & whiney or the adults from being annoyed-- which meant everyone was happy!
However, don't think this is place just for kids-- it isn't. Cavallini's is big enough to accommodate dancing & entertainment for weddings or other large events, but intimate enough for small groups such as baby or bridal showers. The room is filled with a warm ambiance & custom details that adult guests will appreciate. The columns & rafters are dowelled & ornamented with hand metalwork, similar to the custom, pierced stainless heat vents. There is ample, free parking, floors are lovely, levelled, stone & there are mutiple, huge (& expensive) Quoitzel Craftsman-style chandeliers casting warm light upon guests. Older folks will appreciate the "kiss & drive" feature that allows them to be dropped off right at the heated entry. The bathrooms are clean & well maintained, music of our choice was piped in, & our family photos & videos were conveniently displayed on 2 monitors available in the room (other places charge a rental fee for this.) Since were also able to choose the color of our table linens & napkins for this family reunion, our tables were dressed in the red, green & white colors of the Italian flag. (Most places charge extra for colored linens--but not Cavallini's.) The bar was made staffed & available for guestswho wanted a Bloody Mary, cocktail, or specialty coffee during our event (again, usually an extra charge elsewhere) .
Reviews on other sites have noted Cavallini's owner, Norm, has a true passion for what he does--this is true -- & it shows! He takes great pride in his business & industry experience as well as his ability to meet and exceed a customer's expectations. He helped me to make this family event literally perfect --not one hitch! After an event, guests love to critique the food, your planning & your choices, but I got nothing but complements for choosing this place to have our event. I know that both the youngsters & the adults will never forget THIS family reunion, thanks to the charming venue that is Cavalllini's in the Park! I highly recommend it to those looking for a unique space with good food.
