I would have given this place a lower rating had it not been for the really friendly staff.
We could not find our room for a while, until we tried to open the door to a room with the room number sign missing. The sign had evidently been torn off from the wall, leaving a torn spot in the wall paper. After we entered the unit, we saw that the swinging door guard had only the swinging part. There were four screw holes left at the spot on the door where the other part was. The person at the front desk, who was very friendly, said they would fix the room number sign and door guard, but they were not fixed over the two days we stayed there. Maybe it was because it was on a weekend? She said that the room was safe because it had a strong lock on the door, but isn't the point of the door guard to prevent someone who could unlock the door from entering the room? I suppose I shouldn't complain because we lived to recount how unsafe it was.
The unit was spacious, with the kind of laminated furniture that one would find in most budget hotels except that it had a much cheaper feel to it, as nothing matched with anything else. The carpet was dirty, with torn pieces of paper left on the living area floor. They looked to be either torn sugar packets or band-aid wrap -- I did not care to pick them up with bare hands.
The kitchen area has a good size. There is a good-sized fridge, a small microwave oven and a two-burner stove. The kitchen was poorly stocked -- only one frying pan and one turner for cooking, a china set and eating utensil set for two. There is no dishwasher in the kitchen, and they did not provide any dish washing soap or sponge for hand washing the dishes. We used the face soap and kitchen towel to clean the dishes the best we could. I hope the hotel takes everything to a commercial dishwasher after the guests check out because otherwise people might get sick from using inadequately washed dishes from the previous guests.
There are two flat-screen tvs. I assume they work fine but did not watch any tv.
The bed was acceptable.
The bathroom was reasonably clean and stocked with adequate number of towels. There was exactly one bar of face soap, which we had to use for dish washing, and one tiny tube of shampoo. No conditioner. No glasses for tooth brushing. I think you can ask the front desk for at some of these things (as you probably can for kitchen items), but what a hassle.
I will not use this hotel chain again.
