Midweek on Wednesday, June 12th, 2013 my wife and I dined at the Thai Basils Restaurant in Silvis, Illinois. The restaurant opened on 1 April 2013 and after reading about it in the local newspaper, we decided to give it a try. We are very glad we chose to do so. I should comment here that my wife and I had been to Thailand in the fall of 2012 and were looking forward to bringing back memories of our visit by having an “authentic” Thai meal.
As the name implies, it is indeed a restaurant specializing in food popular in Thailand. The menu offers an extensive number of Thai meal choices. They do not service “American” type food …. only Thai dishes.
As you enter the restaurant you will notice a small garden on either side of the door. Here they grow their herbs used in the menu dishes. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has linen table clothes and linen napkins. The dinner music the evening we were there was recorded smooth piano jazz at a very comfortable volume level. The restaurant’s owner is own premise and is a very nice young lady from Thailand.
For a starter, my wife and I shared the Thailand Adventure Set. This is a small portion of 6 different appetizers that they offer. The appetizers are very flavorful! The Thailand Adventure Set itself would make a sufficient meal for one person.
My wife chose the Shrimp in Asparagus Garden as her entree. She commented especially on the wonderful freshness of the asparagus. For my entree I chose the Mango Andaman Curry with shrimp. This is red curry with tropical fruits plus your choice of beef, chicken or shrimp served in coconut milk. There is some spice to this dish but it is not overwhelming. I enjoyed my “curry” meal very much.
The service wait staff are very efficient and greet you at the door. It is a pleasure to experience a wait staff that appears to enjoy serving their customers.
If you are looking for Thai food, with fresh ingredients and good service, we suggest giving Thai Basils Restaurant consideration. You can be sure we will come back again soon.
