This is a great place to visit on a lovely day. It was a jail in the early days of Sydney's settlement, then shipbuilding and repairs were carried out until 1992. I liked being able to walk all over the island, seeing where the ships were built, and looking at old equipment being maintained by volunteers. We ate at the canteen and the food was quite tasty, but after ordering we waited half an hour for one member of our party to be served, and then the remaining four people were served one at a time over the next half hour. Probably a good idea to take a picnic from home or only order food which is already prepared. The trip to and from the island by ferry was very relaxing with wonderful views of the harbour and waterside suburbs.
