I chose this hotel because I was flying into O'Hare late and didn't want to get lost getting to a hotel closer into town. Well, turns out I did get lost getting to this hotel, as it's a bit far away from the rental car area. Check-in was so-so; it was done by someone who smelled strongly of cigarettes. He wasn't very pleasant with me, when I asked for a room that didn't directly face the street. At first he said they were completely booked, but then when he saw my HHonors status he changed his mind and gave me a different room.
The bed is very comfortable, and the room nicely lit. But the bathroom is extremely small - hard to move around in it. The next morning, breakfast was very nice, and the staff in the morning were all very courteous. It was interesting that the night clerk did not wear the Hampton uniform, but the day staff did. In the future, I will rent a car with a GPS in it and try to find another hotel, as I found a Doubletree in Skokie where my meetings often take place, for the same price but much nicer experience.
I stayed at this hotel when I went to see Lollapalooza in Chicago back in 2005.
The hospitality at this hotel was more than I would expect from an average Hampton Inn. It was well above average in my opinion, particularly because the reception clerk helped us get around, something I would expect a hotel staff member could do. I was impressed with the breakfast, which was staffed and well stocked, and also included HOT entree items! There is also a convenience store next to the reception desk in case you need toiletries or snacks. As I remember, there are also mini-fridges in the rooms with alcohol for sale as well.
TRANSPORTATION! I would strongly recommend this as an affordable alternative to staying in the city. You can take the hotel's free airport shuttle to O'Hare and pick up the train from the airport. For about $5, you can take the train into downtown (about a one-hour ride, so plan ahead) and it just couldn't be easier. Last time I stayed it was about $100 a night, and I will always remember how easy it was for me to stay here.
This is a very good, clean, standard airport motel, but what makes it special are the super-comfy beds and soft pillows. Special mattresses are used in all rooms, and we had the 2 most comfortable nights ever (we stayed overnight on arrival in the USA and again before departure). Our room on each occasion was a deluxe king room which was a decent size with good bathroom with toiletries,iron,hairdryer,coffee-maker,mini-bar,TV - everything you may need. The excellent buffet breakfast included hot items and had a good selection from fresh fruit salad, toast, muffins, pastries, cereals, donuts, yoghurts and hot bacon pizzas. The staff were plentiful and attentive, and the free shuttle service to and from the airport worked well for us- dead on time. We also used the free shuttle to a nearby restaurant, The Great Escape. We would definately stay here again.
Extras like free hot breakfast and complimentary wireless internet, makes this a great value. The hotel has 24-hour shuttle service to OHare where guests can also take the blue line to downtown. There is also shuttle service to nearby restaurants. The Cloud 9 Bedding is comfy. The fitness facility is very small, but got the job done for a workout while traveling.
The staff, from front desk to housekeeping, were all very nice.
