“Not Among the Preferred Local Choices”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2009

Let's get to the list of positives first.

You could do worse. The La Quinta up the street, for instance. The Red Roof Inn around the corner. So location is a plus. There's a nice guy driving the airport shuttle, that's #2.

You can walk to the Wildfire Grill, which has Fat Tire on tap.

But even in Schaumburg, this Hampton Inn looks and feels overpriced and dated. Because it is overpriced and dated. The bathrooms are small and the shower head is below average. The bed is of adequate quality. I had a better television in my college dorm room.

Yes, the lobby is beautiful but claustrophobic. And because it's small, a full house makes for a crowded breakfast area in the morning.

The bed, which matters most I suppose, is comfortable. The room air conditioner actually works and works pretty well.

As a special bonus, on a prior stay, they had a series of rooms at the street side of the first floor that were roughly the size of a jail cell and reeked of cigarette smoke. I don't know if they still offer these rooms, but I'd avoid them. They are substandard Hampton Inn rooms and I'm surprised they're allowed to offer them.

And unless you have a desire to walk from the Wildfire back to a hotel room after a long night at a wonderful bar, this hotel is best avoided. It is my last choice in Schaumburg.

Stayed at this site for a weekend getaway to visit Six Flags (about 40 minutes from hotel) and shop in Schaumburg. I've stayed at a number of Hampton sites and this is pretty average and run of the mill. The only negative I would comment on is the size of the rooms if you have 2 beds (2 doubles). There were 4 adults in our group and it definitely felt cramped and closed in. Luckily, we weren't in the room except to sleep and shower so it didn't cause much harm.

Breakfast was alright - definitely nothing special. The fruit had an odd taste and the eggs were a bit grainy. I've definitely had fresher options at other HI's but it definitely would not deter me from staying again.

Flying ants, repressive cigarette smoke, and filthy rooms summarize this hotel. I'm actually stunned that it's still a Hampton Inn as poorly run as it is.

Filth: As I entered my room, I noted the trash can was more than half-full of garbage. My initial thought was that I had accidently entered someone else's room. This, of course, was not the case. Additionally, the mini-fridge had crusted food throughout, clearly indicating that it had been cleaned in a while.

Bugs: Shortly after falling asleep, I was awakened by a bug on my arm, then another, and another. I quickly turned on my light only to discover hundreds of flying ants.

Smoke: As the non-smoking rooms were full, they tried to move me to a smoking room. The room was so foggy that I couldn't see the curtains. It reeked of cigarette smoke, The curtains, couch, carpeting...everything...reeked of smoke.

Service: They offered to take $10 off my first day's rate to make up for the bugs, despite their 100% guarantee claim. They found me a non-smoking room only after I spent 25 minutes on the phone trying to find another hotel. At no point did a manager or anyone call to check on the room throughout the week.

It looks like a Hampton Inn from the signs and stuff in the rooms, however, this one is operating at the lower end of the range. The room I was in was very small, no closet just an armoire with an annoying ironing board attached to the back of the door.

The bathroom was fairly clean but with some rust and mildew stains surrounding the tub area. Not cool for a Hampton.

The breakfast was also on the nasty side with overcooked eggs and not the same quality that I am used to at a Hampton.

Rooms were a tad noisy in the hallways and streets outside.

You could likely do better at the price I paid ($144)

Clean, but short on amenities. No laundry, no microwave,no fridge. Great frontdesk folks and quiet.

I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in Schaumburg for the 3rd time. Like my other visits before, this visit was excellent all around. The staff was very courteous, check-in was easy and fast, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel also offers a free continental breakfast, which even includes some hot items. On the day I was there, the hot items included waffles and sausage. The hotel is conveniently located near the Woodfield Mall, and all of the other attractions that this area has to offer. Plus, the price can't be beat. Our room cost $89. I thought this was an excellent price for such a nice place that is so close to a popular shopping area!
