“Avoid rooms near bar atrium-NOISY!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2009

Wow. We're easy to please platinum Marriott Rewards members and service was so lacking at this property. Reserved a king room in the tower - specifically requested a quiet tower room. Their concierge confirmed in an email (I have it) that a king quiet room in the tower was awaiting our arrival --- not so.
At check-in, was given a room 2 floors above the open atrium bar area. I called down to reception to request the tower room I was promised, but was told "not available- no rooms in tower are available". No problem, I said. WRONG answer. Saturday night- wedding party. Yelling, Screaming, cursing until 3am.from the bar atrium. Front desk/security unable or unwilling to quiet the bar patrons. Last straw? Front desk offered to move us to a quiet tower room at 1am--- the room they'd confirmed originally in the email they sent me... No thanks.
We'll choose the Westin or Sheraton next time.

I selected the Marriott Renaissance in Schaumburg because of the architect, John Portman. Since the opening of the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta in the 1960’s, he has produced some of the most stunning hotels in the world. The Renaissance, being a suburban hotel, is a departure from his normal urban hotel style.
My checkin was a breeze; it took less than 30 seconds. There are about six parking spots out front near the elevators for 30 minute parking to unload your vehicle. Parking in general is a bit of a walk, it is on the West side of the building, and while pleasant during my stay, the walk in winter could be brutal. Thankfully it is free, but there is also valet parking if you want it. My room was fine, though I like to have my bedding tucked in tight, and the sheets and comforter were not big enough to be fully tucked in on my king size bed. Having a laptop provided by my company, I assumed I could just connect to the internet for free using iPass, but even that would not work at this hotel, and I wasn’t about to pay the $14.95 per day. I could not get the free internet to work in the lobby, my laptop saw it, but couldn’t connect. The indoor pool and hot tub were wonderful, but it can get noisy with kids screaming on a weekend.
In the room there was a large flat screen TV and a "media connectivity center" so you could connect DVD players, your laptops, USB drives and VCR's to the TV. Cables are even supplied in the desk drawer. It worked great with my laptop and a DVD player.
One big positive was the elevators. While the hotel was almost empty, the elevators seemed to be programmed to park on the floors where guests were staying. I never had to wait for an elevator on the 12th floor, and there was always an elevator with an open door on the first floor. This was very nice. Unlike older John Portman hotels with exposed glass elevators, all the elevators in this hotel are completely enclosed in shafts, but they were fast and clean.
I did not eat at any of the on hotel restaurants, they were too expensive. Within 5 miles, there are literally hundreds of places to eat from McDonald’s to high end restaurants.
On the design of the hotel, Portman has made improvements compared to his older hotels. The room size and windows are generous. The staff areas are much larger than his older hotels, so you don’t see maid carts all over the place. There are also separate staff elevators on the East side so they don’t have to use the guest elevators. Some of the limestone flooring at the entrances is showing wear from Chicago’s harsh winters, and the landscaping has taken a beating, but overall the hotel is in immaculate condition. The indoor pool is also designed as a lap pool for business travelers, and the health center is huge and spotless.
One warning, there is relatively loud music in the atrium lobby, so if this bothers you, don’t stay on floors 3-6. Floors 7 and up are not part of the atrium and are very quiet.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel, especially for business travelers. It’s OK for families on the weekend, but food is expensive.

This was a great hotel for a quick, local overnight trip. Got a super low price right on the Marriott website. The hotel was very modern and the room was very cool as well. It had a floor to ceiling window with a great view as well as fun little perks like a TV in the bathroom mirror and a nice chair.

The pool/hot tub area was quiet and nice.

The only complaint I would have is the noise level on the weekend. There was a wedding going on at the hotel and around 2am the hallway filled with screaming guests. Not the quietest hotel walls I've ever seen.

Overall though a great downtown Chicago caliber hotel at an amazing price.

Very nice hotel! I had a king-size room, very quite and clean. I even had a tv in my bathroom mirror! The smaller conference rooms and ballrooms were perfect for the conference. Lots of bathrooms near the conference room area, temperature was kept at a nice average, not too cold or too hot. Food was excellent! Lobby had a nice feel, lots of conversation areas to hangout. I did not use the pool but a co-worker's kids loved it. If you are looking for a larger suite, this hotel has them! My group had a small gathering in a suite, it had a kitchenette, large dining room table, fireplace, bar area, etc. This hotel is also located in a GREAT area, close to Woodfield Mall and TONS of great food. There is even a trolley that will take you to the mall - co-worker's teenage kids used this with no problems.

I was booked here for the Illinois ASCD conference, as a speaker.
What a TREAT! From the moment my bellman ( Kenny) took over, it was superior customer service . Kenny knew his stuff and got me settled into my room quickly. The room was modern, quiet, clean and comfortable.
Sam and Harry's wait staff were also spectacular and the food was delicious...a bit pricey but worth it for a treat....I ate dinner and the breakfast buffet. If you take American Taxi from O Hare, it is $30 one way and the hotel takes guests on a shuttle for the area. There is a large mall nearby but I did not get a chance to visit. Wonderful accommodations and a pleasant visit!

One of the finest hotels in Chicago, let alone Schaumburg, lots of restaurants in the area. The rate is great per night, but the taxes/additional fees are too much (internet for $15.day) Their are other nice hotels that aren't as excessive.

I absolutely love this hotel! It is very beautiful and is in a wonderful location. The rooms are what you would expect of a Renaissance property...very nice. There is even a TV in the mirror of the bathroom.

When we checked in, they did not have any king sized beds available, so we were placed in a room with two double beds for one night and moved to a king room across the hall the next morning. The staff was very accommodating about this.

The club lounge is not the best I have seen, but it offers some nice amenities and a nice view of the area.

Parking is free, and very abundant! There is plenty to do near the hotel...restaurants, bars, shopping. This is definitely the #1 hotel in Schaumburg.

  • Liked — Its magnificent appearance.
  • Disliked — All of the walking involved in getting from your car to your hotel room.
