I wrote website to this Nest & was told there was a cabin for $168-it was last minute notice as it was my husband & I 23rd anniversary-when i explained we would be visiting via a Harley-it seems that the owner didnt want our service. (impression i got via 2nd email) After owner, Maggie says it is min 2 night stay-upon last request-she let us stay on a sat night 1 night (so no $20 gas card) so we accepted-she didnt seem the friendliest by phone by no means. After researching her website-it seemed to us that you could just leave your cabin via foot & head into the Palisades Park right outside your cabin-not the case. Arrived in Savana-came from rockford area-We tried Poopys in town & was disappointed with service/food, etc-not sure why its so popular?? so -got onto main st in town & seen hundreds of bikes-i have a feeling this is why maggie doesnt like "bikers" staying at her cabins as "drop-ins" as she thought i would be...we found cabin-finally-you have to look for 1740 post box on clay st-turn right as she emphasizes-No Sign & thats the way they want it-ya cant blame them, i wouldnt want drunk bikers at my cabins either...so, we made sure to park our lights toward the barn per her request-unpacked & entered our "Snow Cabin"...Very musty smell at 1st-this i can handle, it was a cabin...newer lcd tv with vcr-decor is old & antiquey-we tried to read all the directions on how to operate all the equipment in the place, including just a light!-quite overwhelming...we did see that they posted hike 5 min north to get on a trail to palisades park, which is why we were there-but how is one supposed to know north from south?! we just headed out on clay road and found a trail to hop on to-not the best pics taken but better than nothing, earlier we head out on scenic ridge road-drove 35 mi & still no entrance to park-small spaces for trails i thing.... we finally went back to cabin to relax after walkiing so much (no didnt use their bicycles), walked in cabin-as we had a/c running cuz it was 80's & the heat was running-how is that?! all of the knobs/switches are jackedup to say the least. ...sat on front porch a while in the dark to cool off cabin-nice at 1st until i found out when the door was closed-it was locked-had to call the owners-luckily Al was awake-@8pm & was able to give us a key -then my husband noticed on the porch screen (right behind my head) and all under the table on the front porch was HUGE spiders! i totally freeaked-i know its a cabin-but geesh. So we retired for the night & decided to use the hot tub, Wow! It came on automatically! It is like an outside jacuzzi, already filled w/hot water w/chlorinator bubblebob in it-stunk! looked dirty-no privacy curtains in bathroom, we did get in-but i had eebie jeebies-dont get me wrong, place was clean but...i took a shower-retired for the night-had windows open since we couldn't get a/c to come back on and there was this "bug" outside that made a very loud noise along with the trains seemed like every half hr, kept me up all night. We left around 9isham next day-i called Maggie & thanked her-cabins are cozy but the Website is deceiving-i expected a fireplace-not a woodburning stove that you had to read directions again on how to operate-& the whole jacuzzi was a nightmare-dead bugs in light above (pics attached)...i was very glad she let us stay-it was last minute notice & not bad for $168, but her version of a snack bar is just a table to sit at, not anything to choose snacks from... in order to see some of Palisades park & the pretty trees this time of yr, but we wont b back-nothing special here-did enjoy Choppers down the st-good food. Upon leaving-took hwy 84 toward Galena-there we seen the great Mississippi River & the Entrance to Palisades Park-oh well-beautiful scenery on the back of a bike indeed. (tip, do not get a bloody mary at poopys-awful, and no cheezeburger at Hawg Dogs on main st-totally burnt-gross).
