“Quality accommodation near South Downs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

Stayed in one of the cottages last weekend. It was all very nicely done. A lot of thought has gone into what people might want/need. Recently refurbished and extremely clean etc.
Great for winter as well as summer as there is an Aga making the kitchen nice and warm and a wood burning stove in the living room if you want to light it (obviously there’s central heating as well)
The location is really good for South Downs and very close to River Adur. Lovely pub just up the road and Steyning 2-3 miles away.
Louise and Les are very nice people and are genuinely interested that you should enjoy your stay.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Stunning 16th century house & cottages in the prettiest of English gardens. Chickens and rabbits abound and Les and Lou really welcoming. A great escape and easily reached from the M25.

Spent few days at this fantastic place and it really felt like I was far from my everyday hectic life. The cottage, newly refurbished, fully equipped kitchen for those who want self catering (but come on, we were on holidays!), spotlessly clean, bed very comfortable, great breakfast with fresh homemade bread and eggs from the chickens in the garden served by very friendly hosts. Even their chickens are friendly! Shame the weather wasn’t good enough for a dip in the pool. Would love to go back soon.

Enjoyed a wonderful short break in the superbly renovated Brewhouse Cottage - furnished to retain the original character, all to a very high standard. Super country kitchen complete with AGA; original feature fireplace in lounge; and everything we needed for our 6 month old on hand - travel cot; monitor; baby bath; high chair; plastic plates and cups; and toy box! Even a private pool hidden away in the garden for a leisurely dip!

Freshly baked scones (with strawberries and cream), homemade bread and cookies greet our arrival along with a friendly welcome from the hosts. Left to your privacy and holiday, Les and Laura are on hand if you ever need anything, including tourist recommendations!

Historic Steyning a short drive away, and then West Sussex including beaches all in easy reach. Would definitely recommend a short break in this idylic setting.

We stayed at the Artisan Bakehouse (the Brewhouse) for a week in the beginning of June and had a great time. The cottages are newly refurbished to a high standard but retain a lot of the "old fashioned" rustic charme. The hosts, Les and Louise, are very helpful and welcoming and we found the attention to detail truly amazing: There were tea/coffee and fresh scones on arrival, vases with cut flowers in several rooms, a large box with toys according to the age of our children, fresh bread, jam etc. We enjoyed a romantic three course meal in the couple's dining room one evening and it was very enjoyable. The pizzas prepared in the AGA also come higly recommended. A shame that the weather was not great, otherwise we could have enjoyed the pretty gardens, the pool and the huge trampoline even more.
If you are looking for a break with the family, this is an excellent place to go!

Rustic charm meets contemporary comforts in these newly refurbished 17th century cottages set in acres of beautiful gardens with far reaching views over the south downs. Fantastically located for country walks, cycle rides and near to the coast, it has so much to offer. A warm welcome from the delightful Nicholson family and the free range chickens awaits as well as delicious home made bread, cookies and jam ( and eggs too!). Its the attention to detail and the desire to share all that The Artisan Bakehouse experience and its surrounds has to offer that make these fantastic hosts and this place so special .If you fancy a break from cooking, then Les and Louise also offer home cooked food with fresh, locally sourced ingredients - you wont be disappointed. I cant rate this place highly enough.
