The hotel had it's soft opening on 9/5 and grand opening on 9/8, just in time to be at 100% full occupancy for LabelExpo. If I can be so bold, I might suggest that a property self-claiming 4 stars might need more than 3 days to work out the opening kinks, as there were too many to forgive.
The shuttle service is atrocious, with airport pickup times quoted in the 20-25 minute range, but actually taking 35-45 minutes. Also the shuttle is supposed to take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius. What they don't tell you is that they only have 1 shuttle (or very rarely 2 shuttles) running, so if it's in the middle of an airport or convention center run, you could easily be standing around in the lobby for 30 minutes or more.
The facilities are quite nice, modern, and comfortable. Be advised however that neither the hotel Bar nor the Capital Grille are open yet, so the only dining option is the very average yet overpriced seafood chain McCormick & Schmicks.
My room had a plethora of issues, including:
1. No internet (wired or wireless)
2. Various bugs in the TV operating system
3. A doorless rain-style shower that succeeded in drenching the entire bathroom floor because of its poor design
4. No bathrobes
5. No Minibar
6. 1 of the 2 phones was defective
Additionally, for the first night of the stay, there were no room number directional signs. When you get off the elevator, you have no idea what direction your room is in. Thankfully this was resolved by day 2 of my stay (5 days after the hotel's soft opening).
The staff is a mixed bag. I encountered several people who clearly had little to no hospitality experience or willingness to please and they quite simply have no business working at a "4-star" property. Sadly, many of these uncaring employees work the front of the house. Most of the staff, including the shuttle drivers, don't even know the major restaurants or shopping attractions in the area and are unable to provide directions or ideas. The concierge is OK, but his seemingly exciting local restaurant recommendation turned out to be a dive with mediocre food and rude service.
The fact that they are already charging full price ($229) despite not being at 100% operational ability is abhorring.
At one point I needed something from the hotel convenience store. I have stayed in enough 4 and 5 star hotels to realize I am going to pay a premium for anything offered in the store, but I was absolutely floored at the prices they were charging. $12 for a travel size bottle of Excedrin and $5 for a 0.6 ounce stick of deodorant (77% smaller than most retail size deodorant sticks).
I raised many of these issues to the front desk manager and he was nice, apologetic, and offered me 50% off my stay, which I gladly accepted. Still, they were only able to correct 3 of the 6 room issues during my stay, with no further apologies or comps offered.
After talking with many convention goers, It seems like the Sofitel and Hyatt are the 2 places to stay in Rosemont. Yes, the facilities and rooms are nicer at the IC, but they're gonna need at least 6-12 months to get themselves squared away.
IMHO, it is not worth anywhere close to $229 a night to stay here.
YMMV.
