“Luxury hotel at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

The Intercontinental O'Hare is one of the best and most comfortable hotels in that area. It's closely located near the Chicago O'Hare Airport and right next to a very large outlet mall and recreation area with bars and movie theaters.
As the name says it is not located downown Chicago but an average cab fare of $40-50 gets you there too.
The area is mostly for business with lots of conference hotels and little shops (apart from the above mentioned mall).
The hotel itself is extremly nice with large, bright and modern rooms, comfy beds, spacious bath rooms. It offers different restaurants inside and two additional ones right next to it but all are moderatly to very expensive (though also good to very good). Right next to the lobby, inside the hotel is also a small Starbucks Cafe.
Altough very well insulated, there is a price to pay for the proximity to the airport. The hotel is located right between the approach path of the two main runways of O'Hare but on approach airplanes are barely audible. Only with eastern winds (rare/mornings) planes take off over the hotel.
The hotel offers a very modern though small gym, but it is sufficient for your day-start or day-end training especially since there are no running trails in the vicinity (all the entries to the park across the street are on the other side of it!).

Room Tip: TIP: ask for a eastward room on a high floor. The sunrise over Chicagoland are spectacular and on cl...

Thank you very much for your feedback. You're right about the flight patterns. In our six years in the property, we've learned that only on occasion do the planes take off or land directly overhead - perhaps a couple hours each week. The building is noise insulated and rarely are the planes audible.
As for travelling downtown, another option is the blue line train which departs from the Rosemont station just a mile away. Our complimentary shuttle will drop off and pick you up on demand. From there. the trip downtown is less than 40 minutes and very inexpensive.
Again, thank you for taking the time to write this. We hope to see you again soon.

We arrived at O'Hare at 3:00pm. The kiosk for United baggage claim did not have the Intercontinental Hotel on the options for contact. Lousy signage meant we walked all over trying to find the hotel shuttle and ended up taking a taxi to the hotel. This is not the hotel's fault, but leads to the disappointment. Upon arrival with the taxi, there were two men at the door and didn't bother to open the door or greet us until we had gotten out and unloaded suitcases and then asked "are you checking in?" You think? I've been to other Intercontinental hotels and they are practically ripping the door open before you stop so this seemed pretty laid back.

We checked in (having prepaid for the rooms). Would love if someone could tell me why the expensive hotels charge $13/day for internet and the less costly hotels give it to you free????
Rooms were nicely appointed, but my problem comes with the bathroom.

Why the bathroom? I have shoulder length hair that can be washed in about 3 minutes with proper water flow. These bathrooms have only the waterfall shower head with as much water pressure as a slow leak on your faucet. So a shower that should be quick ends up taking forever. Should have a hand held as an option to the waterfall. Not enough horizontal space and be prepared to splash your feet when you wash your hands in the sink.

Had dinner at the McCormick & Schmick attached to the hotel. Very nice dinner.

All in all, I consider this a disappointment and a no return. Too bad because I am fond of Intercontinental in other cities.

Dear Guest,
We are truly sorry you experienced these problems. Unfortunately, the city of Chicago requires all hotel shuttles to pick up from the same central location at the Shuttle Bus Center. Regardless, you should have had a warmer greeting once you arrived. We're also sorry you did not enjoy the shower. The vast majority of our guests do like the rainfall shower, but we understand our guests have different preferences. If you choose to return, please ask for the traditional shower/tub combo, which would be what you are more accustomed to.
Thank you for choosing to stay with us.

Regards,

We had gone to Chicago for Labor day weekend, we had booked this hotel through Hot wire and got an amazing deal on this superb hotel. We arrived at 11.30 pm at the hotel due to long weekend, there was a line for check-in!! We finished our check- in in 15 mins, went to one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever seen. I asked for top floor to get a view... We stayed on 12th floor, I could see the fashion outlet mall from our window. Our schedule was quite booked for the next 2 days, so we took the morning shuttle to Rosemont Blue line, if you want to walk it takes 15- 20 mins. I just wish they had shuttles from the blue line to the hotel... they have Starbucks counter in the lobby and it was really nice to get your morning coffee from there. We didn't get a chance to sample the food, but the crowd every night in the restaurant must mean they serve good food. The room service was impeccable, the staff was courteous.... Amazing stay through and through...

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms will give you a nice view...

Thank you for staying with us. Our new restaurant - Fresco 21 also prepares the room service food that you enjoyed, so you actually did sample the food.
Thank you again. We hope to see you soon.

Although we were only there for 7 hrs, the staff made the short visit very enjoyable. These have to be the most comfortable beds that we have ever slept in.
The shuttle from O'Hare and back is complimentary and prompt (one driver was not pleased that I made him wait for 3 min while I checked out).
Another sure stay if you want a restful night in the windy city!

Great location to O'Hare. Walked to the Fashion Outlets; literally in the backyard of the Intercontinental O'Hare. Bathroom decor was modern and beautiful, although not the most functional. The walk-in glass shower does not have a door which makes things a little chilly. The entire room was very clean. Keurig coffeemaker and Newman's organic coffee was appreciated. Bed was relaxing. Shuttle to O'Hare was extremely comfortable and took about 15 minutes to reach Terminal 3. Be aware - self parking in the ramp is $24 with in & out access; I believe the valet was $36? I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Had a king room. There was a large couch available as well. Had a room on the south side & cou...

Thank you for staying with us. We're glad you were comfortable and able to enjoy the new attractions around us. Yes, the mall (125 stores) is less than a 5-minute walk in our backyard, and as you were able to see, the stores are excellent.

We have a 200 person meeting at this hotel in August. The hotel is nice and clean. It has a modern decoration. They just opened an outlet mall within walking distance and it has two restaurants on the property. The rooms were really nice, big room with big bathroom. My two negatives were that my room did not have a bathtub and the bed was really hard. The pillows were very thin. I tried to double the pillow and it did not help. But it is close to the airport and great place for meeting space.

Room Tip: My room faced the airport which was really cool

We scored a pretty sweet rate at this property and it had some serious wow to it. It is a top tier Hotel, beautiful lobby and outstanding art work. Our room was one of the nicest rooms we have every stayed in....huge closet, Kohler bathroom fixtures and plenty of room. Someone had commented about airplane noise...I didn't hear a thing. Great service at check-in and check-out....Definitely a 5 star property.

Room Tip: Get your money's worth...get there early and stay late : )
