“The best choice near O'Hare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2011

I have stayed at the Intercontinental O'hare many times over the last two years. This is a very clean hotel and the rooms reflect that. If you are Ambassador status, you will enjoy the room upgrade, I wish all rooms were this nice. Glass enclosed shower, walk-in closet, L-shaped room furniture and the requisite flat screen TV.
Steps out the front door is McCormick and Schmicks (wonderful appetizer menu during happy hour, ends at 6) as well as a Capital Grille. Two blocks away is Gibsons steakhouse as well.
The hotel bar is small, as is the work out area. There is a restaurant on premises too
Only small complaint is the lack of a vanity or counter area near the sink. Difficult to put in contact lenses and I imagine would be even more difficult applying makeup if you were female. That was a designer faux pas and is the only flaw with this great hotel.

Room Tip: get ambassador status if your stay is long or if you anticipate multiple stays

Stayed 3 days, and it was a near O'hare airport with free drop-off.
The room and the hotel is designed by a designer, maybe to impress, but did not feel cozy or homely at all!! The bathroom felt very cold, with no bathtub, the colors were all grey in the room i stayed, if looking for romance i would not stay there!!
Also the internet is not free, and the room we stayed in the internet signal was not all that good and the pages took a lot of time to load, my girlfriend wanted to complain and get our money back!!
The Metro is a good walk about 15mins but the complimentary bus to the airport goes through the metro, so use that!
I felt the place was for those who come to do conferences and the company pay! not for the ones who want value for their money!
Would not take my gf here again!! And planes take off just behind the hotel, and it disturbed my sleep when the big planes took off!

This is a pretty standard business conference hotel with the twist of having an art gallery mixed in throughout the building. The staff provided great service. The rooms facing west have a very industrial view. The rooms facing east overlook a green strip that is very nice.

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the east and west facing views, you are right that there is construction on-going just to the west of us. When phase one is complete later this fall, there will be a new exit ramp from the tollway that leads directly to our hotel. When phase two is complete in early 2012, there will be a new "I Love This Bar and Grill" from Toby Keith. When the last and final phase three is complete, there will be a new $225 million "Fashion Outlet" mall, with 550,000 square feet of retail space. All of this will supplement the new Rivers Casino that just opened one mile to the north.
While there is construction on-going behind us, the payoff in the end will be tremendous for our guests. Thank you for staying with us - we hope you will return very soon.

Booked this hotel through a park, sleep, fly website. Great value and a big, well designed, and comfortable room.

Thank you for your feedback. We try very hard to provide an excellent value, particularly with the Park, Sleep, Fly packages. As you know, we have an excellent covered garage connected to the hotel, so there is complete protection from inclement weather. We're pleased that your stay went well and hope to have you back with us again very soon.

My wife & I recently stayed at the InterContinental Chicago-O'Hare. Our room was deluxe
from the title as well as all the amenities that went along with it. The veiw was breath taking overlooking the Des Plaines River Preserve, with the beautiful Chicago skyline in the background. We will certainly recommend to our friends & will be back. Thanks to the entire staff for making our weekend so special. Rm 1205 best in the house. Thanks

Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us. We agree that the view looking east is wonderful. The forest preserve in front of the hotel is protected property so we are fortunate that we will enjoy this same view long into the future. And, of course, there are few skylines in the world that can compare to Chicago's. Please let us know if there is ever anything we can assist with in the future. Thank you again.

I was quite surprised by how nice this hotel was for $60 a night from Hotwire. Will look into it again. Beds were welcoming and comfy. The bathroom was spacious and very updated. Room was large and lots of storage for that longer stay.

Recently spent two nights at this upscale hotel. Generally, I avoid staying anywhere near an airport, especially in a great city like Chicago. However, I had no choice as my company picked this location for several days of meetings.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It has a very contemporary vibe and is filled with excellent modern art. My room was large and tastefully furnished. Very comfortable king-size bed, copious down pillows, nice linens, and plenty of room.

The bath was gorgeous. Loved the walk-in, glass-enclosed rain shower. It had nice contemporary finishes, although it was a little dark making make up application a bit difficult. WiFi worked flawlessly, too.

And, despite close proximity to O'Hare, I never heard the planes landing or taking off while I was in the hotel. A large range of conference rooms, excellent A/V staff, and the catering was very good.

Just outside the hotel are several dining options -- upscale chains like McCormick & Schmicks and Capital Grille, which is convenient given that it feels like you are stuck in nowhere land.

The service was a little inconsistent. I checked in on arrival in the morning and my room was not available (no problem), but when I arrived back at registration in the early evening to pick up my key, I had to wait nearly 10 minutes (along with a line of other guests). It's great for the desk staff to spend a lot of time with individual guests (I overheard them giving restaurant recommendations, etc.), but when there is a line of other guests waiting, they need to speed things along. Service in the restaurant was slow at breakfast time, too.

However, room service was speedy and extremely courteous. And the entire staff is very courteous and eager to please.

Bottom line, if you have to stay near O'Hare, this Intercontinental is an excellent option.

Dear hg6649,
Thank you for your recent stay and for the feedback. With your assistance and others' we are able to best gauge our service levels. We are pleased that you found the hotel comfortable and the design intriguing. During the next 60 days we will begin installation of our next art exhibit which will feature award-winning work from a collection of Chicago-area universities. We believe our guests will find this work unique and inspiring. We are also presenting a solid lineup of music and comedy in our Montrose Room, including stand-up from Zaney's, the English Beat, Freddy Jones Band, and the Meters.
We hope you will return soon and let us know your thoughts on these changes.
Thank you again for your comments.
