We stayed at the Sofitel 1 night for a business conference. After staying at the Embassy Suites next door just a few weeks prior, I had high expectations (but this one was less expensive, so I should have taken that into consideration...)
GOOD: The decor of the lobby and lounge was very clean and "trendy" when you walk in. The bellhops are eager to assist you with your bags. The elevator doors would stand open, waiting for you to get on (no dropping all your bags to press the "up" button!) The room - #600 - was decent sized, a little dated, but simple and clean.
The restaurant was very good. Fresh bread and butter kept coming. Our waitress was very charming (though sometimes difficult to understand with her thick accent.) The appetizers were good (I've had better caprese salad but their beet twist was interesting.) For the main course, I had the duck - delicious! Everyone else complimented their dishes - steak and fish. When it came to dessert, we noticed that the table next to us had crepes so we asked (since it wasn't on the menu). It happened to be the manager of the hotel and his family. The kitchen made some crepes especially for us, warm, with chocolate filling, fresh berries, and real whipped cream. It was delightful! We also ordered a piece of the chocolate cake (huge), which we also loved and ended up taking half back to the room for later.
BAD: The hallways smelled a little like diapers whenever we got off on the 6th floor. Some dirty dishes that had been set outside a room were still there hours later when we left again.
The double beds were ridiculously small. They were about a twin-and-a-half each. We had three young women in our room and thought that 2 could share a bed, but it would have been VERY "cozy". One girl agreed to sleep on the small sofa (not a sleeper) and we called down for extra blankets twice - they never came. So she curled up in a ball and tried to sleep. The heating/cooling in the room was out of whack too. If we turned it off, it would be freezing cold, if we turned it on (even just a little), it would be 90 degrees. None of us slept that well with the temperature going back and forth all night.
NOTE: When we checked out, we mentioned the lack of blanket delivery and extreme temperature issue. They waived our parking fee ($18), which was a nice gesture.
I would definitely recommend the Embassy Suites next door any day of the week over Sofitel!
