“Very nice place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

We (a couple) secured a last minute room at the Manor House which is located very conveniently to visit Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and to visit the beautiful Northumberland beaches. We were made very welcome and the hosts booked us for dinner at a nearby (3 miles down the road) pub which does a great beef and ale pie. The beer is good too. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend them to any future visitor.
Note that this is a rural B&B. There is nothing much else in Fenwick, just a small village with no services.

Room Tip: This B&B is advertised as Berwick but it is some distance to Berwick.

We have just returned home from our short break in Northumberland. We have stayed at the Manor House for the fifth time now. Each time we have had a different room and have been highly delighted with our spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. Kate and Mike are really welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Their knowledge of the area is really helpful too.Breakfast is divine and really sets you up for the day. We will be returning asap

I stayed here for one night while walking the St Cuthbert's way. Fenwick is a very tiny place with no services or pubs, so the hosts put on a 'shuttle service' to an inn a few kilometers away.

Even though it is close to the busy A1 road, the place is very quiet; one can eaqsily sleep with the window open.

The Manor House itself is a very nice building; the interior decoration is a question of taste;I felt it had been a bit over-decorated with knick-knacks, so that one can feel cramped at times. I was given a single bedroom on the second floor, which was very tiny. Once I put my suitcase down there was no space to move. Contrary to what the brochures and the website imply, this was **not** an en-suite room; in fact, I had to share a bathroom.

Another issue I found worrying was the fire evacuation chart: in case of a fire in the main staircase, the escape route would be through another guest room. One wonders what would happen if that guest room was locked.

Room Tip: insist on being given an ensuite room.

Myself plus 3 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 11 stayed in the Manor House, Fenwick, Berwick-Upon-Tweed this July. I cannot recommend this B&B too highly. We were made very welcome and everything possible was provided for our comfort. There was a great choice for breakfast including home-made jams, fresh fruit and fish. Everything was beautiful and spotlessly clean. It most certainly deserves it's 4 star Tourist Board rating.

Room Tip: I stayed in the family room which was excellent

We stayed at the Manor House for 8 days, as we were exploring Northumberland and used it as our base. The location on the A1 is very good - very convenient for the transport connections in Berwick, and also in the right direction for getting to places such as Alnwick, Bamburgh and Newcastle. The local scenery is breathtaking, and you can walk for hours on Bamburgh beach. The Manor House itself is in Fenwick, just off the A1 and extremely peaceful and quiet.

Kate and Mike were very genial hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. They recommended some nice local restaurants such as the Black Bull in Lowick, and Milan in Wooler. Kate's breakfasts were amazing, so no lunch was needed, only dinner!

Having not been to Northumbria since 2008 we decided it was time to visit again and try the Manor House at Fenwick which had been a perfect base during our last visit. We were warmly welcomed back and found the Manor House lived up to our pleasant recollections from four years ago. Our bedroom was well furnished and comfortable with nice design touches to the décor and a well-stocked hospitality tray.
Although situated in a quiet, small village its position just off the A1 facilitates day trips to many of Northumbria’s best tourist spots – Holy Island, Alnwick, Berwick on Tweed, Bamburgh and many others. The breakfast was delicious and sufficient in quantity to put us on through most of the day. We are planning a short autumn break and look forward to staying at the Manor House again.

Arrived to find a stand in person there to welcome us. Well, welcome is probably not the right word. The first question on opening the door was "Are you walkers?" This lady obviously worked there and was just waiting until we arrived. The ice broke slowly and we managed to have short chat. I had asked the owners on the phone for help with finding a god place to eat. We were referred to the room information book which contained old menus and no idea as to where these places were, so we had to fend for ourselves. I wondered if the A1 being within 100m would be a problem, but it is a very quiet road here. This establishment is up for sale, so people going later on might need to be wary of that, and reviews so far may well be negated. The room smelt slightly musty and there was a hint of dampness about the sheets, but by opening the window and letting some air in this improved. The bed also was a little on the soft side for us. We believed that the room, despite being clean and tidy, was probably ready for a refit under any new owner. The room had some brochures and local information, including a bus timetable. Ok if you had come four years ago.The hosts arrived back and the atmosphere changed. They were very nice people and they produced and excellent breakfast, but we had been tainted by the initial impressions. I would not go back again, but others may well find it good value for money.

Room Tip: The higher up the better so that you do not have ceaking florboards over your head and check that yo...

With regard to the comment made about The Manor House B & B being 'For Sale' future guests need not worry. Our property has been on the market for just over 2 years and owing to the current state of the property market I do not feel that we will be moving anytime soon. Our B & B is inspected every year by the Tourist Board to ensure that we are keeping up the 4 Star Silver standards and when and if we move it will obviously necessitate the B & B being re-inspected immediately the new owners take occupation to ensure that the standards are maintained.
