I am writing this review the day after we were “supposed” to stay at Cliffbreakers. My husband called the hotel and reserved the English Suite for our anniversary. Check in time is 3pm and we showed up about 3:15pm. At arrival they offered us one of their homemade cookies which had a fly in the tray with them! Then at check-in they tell us our English Suite (room 200) had been given to the wedding party because they had a wedding there and they were having trouble with the rooms. They give us another Jacuzzi suite, this one on the 1st floor, and we head to our room. We open room 108 to find a completely dirty room, it had yet to be cleaned. So we head back upstairs to the check-in area and tell them. This time they give us room 112 and tell us it will be a full $10 less than our English Suite cost. We walk into room 112 and it looks like a basic Motel 6 room, old furniture, the lamp is falling apart, no remote for the TV (which has 15 channels and the cable was all messed up with squiggle lines), one entire window you couldn’t see out of because it was so dirty and the view was of the weeds lining the river so you didn’t want to look out anyway. And then we look at the Jacuzzi and there are spiders and bugs in it! My husband and I took one look at each other and decided to leave. We had not driven 3 hours and spent good money to stay in that kind of room. While my husband talked to 3 different managers, I called the Radisson and told them our situation and they found us a room no problem. All in all, we spent over an hour at Cliffbreakers and I can positively say we will never attempt to stay there again. We kept telling the staff that we had a reservation number for the English Suite and they just kept making excuses why it was given to someone else. Also, it didn’t sound like this was an exception to the rule, it sounded like it happened all the time.

My biggest question is how this hotel is #4 of the Rockford hotels? Are the people that work there typing up reviews? I’d believe only the bad reviews after my experience.

“Disappointing...”

We stayed one night in Rockford for my birthday because I used to live there and wanted to go to JMK Nippon for dinner.
I expected a lot more from this motel. When we booked, my fiancee called a spoke to the front desk to find out if the top level suites were worth the extra cost. She said they were and also had a good view. You had to look out an upstairs window above the air conditioner to see the top of the trees, not the river. The room was hot, the whirpool was in the upstairs bath and the two levels were a pain. The room was not in great shape and less than spotless. Although the windows opened, there were no screens and we were up high and had plenty of mosquitos to contend with. I was glad we were on our way to Lake Geneva and didn't have to stay 2 nights.
On a high note the bar/restaurant service was very good and staff was friendly.

“GREAT GET-A-WAY, GREAT EXPERIENCE”

Lexington Hotel Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort

Sep 9, 2008

My husband and I stayed at Cliffbreakers to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. It was a terrific decision. From the first moment we entered the doors to the last glance back as we left, we were thrilled with the total experience.

We stayed in the "English Room". It has wonderful antiques, paintings and a 2 person jacuzzi. The view of the Rock River and the slope to the river, which had a variety of birds flitting around all day and squirrels entertaining us with their antics, was an added bonus. We loved the antiques throughout the hotel and the brochure they provide for a "walking tour" of Cliffbreakers antiques was very interesting.

The dining room with a riverview was the perfect setting for our special night. The service was impeccable, our waitress, Jen, even offered to take our picture with the camera we had on the table.

We stayed three nights and wished we could have stayed longer.

Consider this hotel over others in the area, you won't be disappointed.

“Unique and Amazing - lots of Character”

My daughter, 3 year old grandson, and I had booked a double queen but when we got there we found we were in a bi-level king! It was such an amazing room that we decided to keep it, even though it meant all of us sleeping in one bed. There was actually a sofa bed that we used part of the time, though the king size bed was big enough for us all. Loved the upstairs and downstairs. Loved the two bathrooms! The upstairs toilet stopped up but was fixed immediately! This place has tons of charm and character. The view of the Rock River was fabulous - especially during the thunder storm. The (indoor) pool is a bit run-down looking but we enjoyed it - we would never have used an outdoor pool in such hot weather. I would definitely stay there again! Can't imagine going anywhere else if I find myself in the Rockford area again.

My stay at Cliffbreakers was the most enjoyable experience I've encountered at any hotel stay. My property had been flooded, so my stay was quite extended. I lived in the hotel for over a month. I don't have a single thing to complain about... they gave me an excellent rate knowing I was in a crisis, the service was excellent, the rooms are spacious and very well kept. They are located with rooms that overlook the beautiful Rock River. They even have some very nicely decorated "theme" rooms. I ate a complimentary breakfast daily out on the balcony of the attached restaurant overlooking the Rock River as well. The staff was more than courteous. I personally met each manager as well as the owner of the Hotel. I ran into a situation after I had been there for about a month. They extended their help to me without any hesitation. I am very gratefull to this group of staff that helped me so much. I would highly recommend this Hotel (which also has beautiful banquet rooms). I know anytime in the future that I may need to stay in a local Hotel here in Rockford Cliffbreakers would be my first choice!
