We stayed at Cliff Breakers and had a wonderful time! The rooms are huge - we even had an upstairs plus a fireplace. The room overlooked the Rock River which made for a spectacular view.

To top off the weekend, the hotel's restaurant offered a spectacular champagne brunch on Sunday!

If you plan to visit Rockford, you need to stay and eat at Cliff Breakers.

“Worst brunch in the world!! STAY FAR AWAY!!!”

The hotel has a great view overlooking the river, but STAY AWAY FROM THE CLIFFBREAKERS RESTAURANT! We were there for Easter Brunch and after 13 years of great Easter brunches at Cliffbreakers, under now new ownership and a new chef, our dining experience was terrible!! From an hour-long wait beyond our reservation time, to poor, bland, cold food choices, this was by far the worst dining experience we've ever encountered.

“New management -great experience”

We've stayed at this property six or seven times since January of this year. We had also stayed a few times under the old management but stopped using the hotel because it had really slipped.

The new management is excellent. They are extremely responsive and accomodating. We see the new proprietor in the lounge, restaurant or at breakfast almost every stay. He visits with many guests and welcomes suggestions.

We are so pleased that we booked a small family luncheon (about seventy people) at the hotel.

We're grateful for your visit to our hotel and appreciate the kind remarks. Mostly, we're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Our staff has worked hard to make many positive chances since the hotel was purchased in November 2006. We hope you had a chance to check out the restaurant -- it not this visit, perhpas the next one. Our new Executive Chef (French) does a great job. Have you seen the new wine list?? It's worth a trip -- best in the Rockford region. Our entire staff is 100% committed to making your next experience at Cliffbreakers as great as the one you wrote about in your review.

We look forward to having you as our guest again soon.

My company booked me in this hotel for week long business meetings and I absolutely loved the experience!! The restaurant is out of this world delicious. I no desire to eat anywhere else after eating at the hotel’s restaurant that first night; the food was mouth watering. My recommendation, try the Tortellini Chicken Cardinale – I fell in love with that dish! The Black Soy Sea Scallops were also mouth watering!

The hotel staff was all very courteous; they said hello when I passed them in the hall and lobby. One staff member gave me a little history lesson on the hotel, which I enjoyed tremendously. The room was very nice, clean and quiet and the bathroom was huge and quite beautiful! I had a beautiful view overlooking the Rock River. I also enjoyed the fact that I could use my wireless connection on my laptop everywhere I went in the hotel; I had a lot of work to do while I was there.

The hotel has an old world charm to it with beautiful antiques all around. The furniture in the room had a beautiful charm; it looked like it was all hand-crafted. The bed was gorgeous! I travel a lot and it’s very rare to see such beautifully crafted furniture in hotels.

Overall I enjoyed my stay tremendously and the next time I’m in town I will certainly stay here again!

It's such great news to hear of your pleasant stay with us. We have such a tremendous property full of antiques, history, stoties and memories.

We work hard to be the perfect property for business travellers such as you. Just a few of our amenities include our free hot breakfast M-F (very popular), free wireless high speed internet access, and complimentary business center.

Our Executive Chef (Chef Philippe) who was raised and trained in France , and his great team do a spectacular job. We're pleased (but hardly surprised) at the great experience you had.

We hope you'll come again soon and that we'll be your "home" when you cannot be in your hometown.

Thanks again for your confidence and your business. We're grateful.

“Not too Terrible”

Lexington Hotel Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort

At first I was very skeptical of this hotel. Our friends had there reception and the only reason that we stayed was because we could not find any other hotels close by. After reading the reviews on this website I was scared and asked my fiance if we could go somewhere else. His friends had already booked their room at $130 a night when my fiance booked his at $60 (alternate website).

I have two tips for anyone planning on staying at Cliffbreakers:
1. Book through travelocity or a webiste similar to it NOT through the Cliffbreakers website.

2. Book your room through Comfort Suites NOT cliffbreakers (*same hotel) because it is much much cheaper.

3. Ask for a room on the 4th floor (1 floor above the main lobby) because the rooms on the lower floors smell mildewy.

Several friends stayed in this hotel as well, one found a cockroach in their bed, another's AC wouldnt work, the third's room smelled like mildew.

However, my only complaint of my room at this hotel was that the room smelled like smoke. Although it is smoke free, it smelled as though it hasnt always been that way.

The beds were so comfortable and the staff was accomidating.

Cliffbreakers was purchased by new owners only a few months before this guest's stay with us.

First, we are 100% committed to all our guests having a great experience and regret that there is anything that causes a guest to be anything less than thrilled. We're sorry we did not live up to the standards this guest expected and deserves.

Several things that should ensure this is not an issue going forward include:

1. New ownership

2. We have an entirely new management staff, starting with our hotel and housekeeping teams.

3. We've made countless improvements to the property during 2007, including newly detailed rooms and upgraded amenities

4, New Executive Chef. Chef Philippe was raised and trained in France and is the region's top chef.

5. We've re-branded the hotel from a Comfort Inn Suites to a Lexington Hotel. This is much better for our property and has eliminated some of the issues raised by this TripAdvisor member.

We would be delighted to have a chance to make things right for this customer and would encourage her to call the hotel any time and ask for either the Hotel Manager (Kristen) or General Manager (Michael) and we'll do all we can to make sure she has the experience which she deserved the first time.
