My wife and I had lunch at Steak n Shake a few days ago. We typically go there about every couple months.
Yes it is a chain, but it is an old fashioned burger joint. Their burger patties are thin and cooked on the flat top. Hungry? Get a double or triple. They'll serve your burger with the condiments you want. The fries are excellent also.
My wife likes their chili, and we've both enjoyed the side salad, cole slaw, and baked beans. These are all good and worthwhile, but not great.
Best of all, they are fairly inexpensive. My wife's double with cheese and fries, and my triple with cheese and fries, and a couple drinks was just twelve bucks incl tax.
