“Decent eats and drinks. Poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I can say that the variety of drinks is awesome at this bar. Usually it is packed after a certain time and it really is a chore to get a beer however, when you are there around 5 the bar area is pretty dead. I would assume when you show up and sit at the bar looking towards the bartenders, they would get the hint you want a drink. However it took about 5 minutes to get the bartender to walk over and give us some. We will go back, when we bar crawl dt

“Excellent Cajun Appetizers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

My wife and I ate at Moe Joe's at 8pm on a Saturday evening. The bar area was very crowded but we got a table in the dining room very quickly without reservations. The drinks were slow coming from the bar but our server warned us it might be due the large crowd. Upon arrival the Bourbon Street special was very good- good size and Bullett Bourbon.
We shared three appetizers- all very good sized portions. The Cajun chicken skewers were outstanding- very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The gumbo was excellent with Andouille sausage, chicken and okra. The crab cakes were crispy and fresh and very tasty.
All in all it was a very enjoyable meal. However- it is loud in there and by 10 pm they turn up the music even louder. Not romantic but great people watching. Our server (Ariel) was very attentive and very personable. We will definitely be back.

“Good Place to try New Oleans Style Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

The place really gives a feel for New Orleans, and is decorated as such. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is very good, love the swordfish and also the shrimp. They bring out cornbread with a sweet honey butter before the meal, and it's quite tasty. It's a fun place to eat, and the bar is connected, but separated by a set of French doors for quiet. There is also a dance place in the lower level, but didn't go there since it opened much later than dinnertime.

“Excellent Food, Excellent People”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

I live in Plainfield and have visited Moe Joe's many times, with family, friends or both. I will say it right upfront, this is NOT cheap eats. Two people can easily drop more than $50 on a simple meal — more than that if you're drinking. So why do I keep going back? The Cajun/Caribbean food is delicious. The drinks, if a bit pricey, are also well-prepared. And the people, well, here is where Moe Joe's really shines. Their enthusiasm is contagious.

My recommendations? Try the Tatoo'd Sangria. Their fried crawfish are an excellent an appetizer, served with two dipping sauces. And their gumbo is good enough to be a meal in itself! Just don't blame me when the check arrives.

“This Louisiana boy likes the place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

Four of us from Louisiana drove to Chicago for a wedding and found what was billed as an authentic New Orleans style restaurant. We really were impressed. The waitstaff need to learn a little southern hospitality, but the food was very good. Not quite as spicy as you get in south Louisiana, but they had extra sauce available. We were there for lunch and the blackened catfish, fried catfish and popcorn shrimp were very good. The turtle soup was another pleasant surprise. Worth a visit.
