“Good place for a one time visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We were in Springfield, IL and decided to visit the New Salem site. It is about 20 miles from the Lincoln Museum. We were sort of running late because this place closes at 5pm. We did not have to much time but it was certainly an interesting site to see the way Lincoln spent his teenage years.

“great for history buffs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Old log cabin houses, very rustic. Volunteers are great. This is a must see for Lincoln buffs. (I just wish it was open more but due to Illinois's debt situation the hours have been cut back on most of it's GEMS.) Along with Lincolns tomb, his home in Springfield,(the only home he ever owned) and the museaum, Springfield area is a great place for history buffs to visit. Been there many times.

“Nice old buildings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Not the original town but a close to perfect re-creation of the buildings that were standing when Abe Lincoln worked in a store and later owned one. It's only 30 minutes from other Springfield area attractions. We stayed in a Petersburg B and B, a few minutes away and drove in to Springfield. Free.

“Luv to Camp”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

We visit this site often as it has a great campground. Sometimes it is difficult to get into ..lots of campers. We have attended the Luminary walk in the fall...it is awesome..If you are a Lincoln fan..then you should stop here. It's close to Petersburg which is a quaint little town to visit.
