“Great value carvery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

We visited The Old Reindeer for Sunday lunch whilst camping in the area, and were glad we booked a table for the 12 o clock sitting, as by 12.05 the place was packed, with people eating in the bar as well as the restaurant area.

There was a good selection of foods on the carvery, not just roast meats (pork, beef, turkey), but also pies, casseroles etc. A huge choice of veg with not just the usual options, and diners can help themselves to the yorkshire puddings - we saw a few people with 2 or 3 on their plates! The food was filling and tasty, although they obviously have to cater for the amount of people eating, so somethings weren't particularly 'gourmet'. For example, the 'roast' potatoes were obviously deep fried, not roasted, so not very crispy, and the cheese sauce with the cauliflower was very yellow and not very cheesy, possibly a packet sauce? We also like a crispy topping on the cauliflower cheese, but that's just personal preference!

All the staff we came into contact with were really friendly and helpful, even whilst being rushed off their feet!

At less than £30 for 2 HUGE carverys, 2 pints and 2 glasses of wine, you can't go wrong!

“Absolutley delightful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2011

We live locally but had never actually heard of this real ale pub/restaurant. We decided to have a drive around to find somewhere new to eat and accidently came across The Old Reindeer. From looking at the pub it was PACKED full of people so we decided to see if they could fit us in for food. Although the bar area was busy we was served quickly. They was EXTREMELY busy in the restaurant, every table was booked but they allowed us to sit in the bar area and eat. We ordered the carvery and was amazed at not only the price, but the quality of the food and service. The older gentleman serving the meat was hilarius and had us chuckling in no time, seemed like we'd been regulars for years!

Our Daughter loved the fact that there was so much choice for her and that people actually spoke to her with regards to the meal rather than ignore her and ask me (she’s 4 by the way!)

We didn’t stay for dessert because the main was so filling. For 2 adult carvery’s, a child carvery, 2 coca colas and some water the bill came to £24.99 which is amazing.

I would recommend booking a table though if you intend to visit! We definitely will be going back there soon!

“Good, simple pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2011

We ate here while staying at the New Hall Farm campsite, a couple of fields' walk away. Warm welcome, friendly staff and straightforward but good value pub food. Choose from a menu or from the better-than-average carvery which includes casseroles, pies and curries, as well as roast meats and the usual trimmings. You can eat in the bar or in the (slightly over the top) dining room, and there is outside seating in warmer weather. A couple of drinks each and two main courses came to about £25, which we thought was good for what we had. Fine dining it's not, but the Old Reindeer serves up generous portions of decent food.
