We visited The Old Reindeer for Sunday lunch whilst camping in the area, and were glad we booked a table for the 12 o clock sitting, as by 12.05 the place was packed, with people eating in the bar as well as the restaurant area.
There was a good selection of foods on the carvery, not just roast meats (pork, beef, turkey), but also pies, casseroles etc. A huge choice of veg with not just the usual options, and diners can help themselves to the yorkshire puddings - we saw a few people with 2 or 3 on their plates! The food was filling and tasty, although they obviously have to cater for the amount of people eating, so somethings weren't particularly 'gourmet'. For example, the 'roast' potatoes were obviously deep fried, not roasted, so not very crispy, and the cheese sauce with the cauliflower was very yellow and not very cheesy, possibly a packet sauce? We also like a crispy topping on the cauliflower cheese, but that's just personal preference!
All the staff we came into contact with were really friendly and helpful, even whilst being rushed off their feet!
At less than £30 for 2 HUGE carverys, 2 pints and 2 glasses of wine, you can't go wrong!
