I had the pleasure of eating at Amici’s Ristorante this evening while traveling through on business. The small town of Peru (IL) is full of fast-food and small ma & pa restaurants, so I checked my handy Trip Advisor app and found Amici’s.
I had the Veal Marsala and enjoyed the meal. It was well cooked, lean, flavorful, and the sauce wasn’t too heavy. The meal had basic veggies (broccoli and carrots) and mash potatoes, which were good for what they are. I travel a lot and eat at more than my fair share of higher-end restaurants, so it’s hard to give Amici’s 5-stars, but I was definitely surprised at how much I enjoyed this small-town dining experience.
The restaurant is right on one of the main roads (4th street) and doesn’t look like much from the outside and you need to disregard almost the entire area around the restaurant, as it’s a bit run down. Inside, the restaurant is very nicely decorated, clean, and was much more than I expected as I entered the building. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful.
Overall, I’d say this was definitely a hidden gem of sorts (unless you’re a local) and would recommend it to anyone.
