Booked Room for several nights in advance of departure using a motel coupon found on an internet motel coupon book. Upon arrival, although the coupon didn't say such, was advised coupon should have been only for one night, but as they had taken the reservation at that rate, they would honor it. Room was updated with fridge, coffeemaker, bigger tv, decent bed, and good shower. Computer in lobby for checking emails. Standard continental breakfast (cereal, toast, bagels, hot waffles). Noted that there was an in-room safe which I thought would be a nice amenity for someone with money or valuables, but subsequent to check out reviewed my bill and found that I had been charged an expensive "safe warranty fee" each night. I'd avoid the expenseive pay for view movies. Nice location close to I-74, restaurants, mall, etc.

The hotel is clean and the rooms are reasonably large for the price. But the rooms smell of smoke covered up with some sort of chemical trying to hide the smell. It's located on a very busy strip, next to noisy, fast traffic and between a Perkins and Cheddars restaurants. So every room is noisy. To add insult to injury, the desk clerk on duty when I checked in was really really rude. Yuck.

They advertise high speed wireless. Well, they have wireless, but it's sloooow and keep dropping out. Spend the money and stay in a decent hotel.

Granted, the Super 8 in Peoria is not the Ritz, but since I come from a long line of avowed cheapskates, we were looking for motel that was reasonably priced and we found this in the Peoria Super 8.

We had two queen size beds that were reasonably comfortable; the room and bathroom were clean. The toilet had a minor problem (we had to hold down on the handle to make it flush). The pillows were a bit skimpy, but I should have asked for another set of pillows. Our room was fairly quiet -- we had the good fortune of having a room that faced southwest; there was another hotel between us and the interstate, which cut down on the noise considerably. I suspect (but have no proof) that the rooms on the northeast side, which face (but are a fair distance from) a major Peoria road (War Memorial Drive) might be noiser. The outside temperature was around 90 degrees, but the air conditioner kept the room very comfortable. Indeed, it got a little too cold at night, so I had to step down the air conditioning a notch. There is no swimming pool, but we weren't looking for one.

The continental breakfast was standard fair, but plentiful. They had donuts (which my kids enjoyed) and cinnamon buns, instant oat meal, coffee, two types of cereal, orange and apple juice, milk in cartons (that was reasonably chilled), and a good sized bowl of apples and oranges.

I was wearing a "Harry Potter" baseball cap, and clerk at the front desk spotted my hat; given that she was a "Harry Potter" fan, we had a nice chat about the soon to be released book. The clerk's mom also worked at the Super 8 and is also a Harry Potter fan, so I had another nice chat with her. In other words, I found the people at the Super 8 to be friendly, but it's possible that my warm impression would have been more muted had I not sported a conversion starter on my beanie. Since I already had plenty of info on the Peoria area, I didn't have the opportunity to ask any of the hotel staff for local area recommendations.

One small gripe was that I was charged $1.62 for the use of an in-room storage safe which I did not use. It turns out that you are supposed to ask for this charge to be waived when you check out, so if you don't notice it, it's a "gottcha". I didn't notice until a couple of days later, but I called the motel and they are giving me a credit for the unused safe fee.

In summary: Clean, quiet economy hotel. A few small complaints, but nothing fatal. I would go back again if I need to set my tired old bones down for a reasonable price.

I spent two nights at the Super 8. There were staff members that we were very unkempt. Other staff members were rude and just didn't seem concerned with keeping my business or my associates that I was traveling with. There wasn't a hair dryer or iron in the rooms which those things I didn't pack and take with me because most hotels have those small things. There wasn't a refrigerator or microwave in the rooms which is nice for those who stay several nights.
I have stayed at several Super 8 hotels and I have always been very pleased with the cleanliness of the rooms, the amenties that they offer, as well as, great service. I however can not say the same for this particular hotel. I would suggest driving onto the next hotel down the street.
