We just spent the weekend at this hotel. As the other reviewers have posted, the staff is excellent and acommodating. They are also very pet-friendly - we brought our Australian Cattle Dog with us and she was quite welcome. There is a nice grassy area not too far from the garage entrance and the elevators are very fast compared to other places we have stayed, so we had no problems getting our dog outdoors in plenty of time to avoid accidents. Our room accomodations were adequate and mostly comfortable.Plusses: Reasonable price, beautiful and historic, centrally located, nice size rooms, good food, pet-friendly, great staff.Minuses: We had to complain to the front desk about the noise on our first night. There are several biker bars across the street that were booming rock music until 4 a.m. so loud that it rattled our windows. The city is apparently not enforcing their noise pollution laws. The night auditor immediately assigned us an interior room (an upgrade!) and we had no problems during the rest of our stay. Also, if you stay there on a weekend, there is NO PLACE open (without a dB level equivalent to a landing strip in a major airport) within easy waking distance to get even a bowl of soup - the hotel restaurants are closed from 2-5 p.m. and that's that. Also, yes, the bar does close early, so if you wish to have a nightcap before turning in, bring your own bottle. And yes, we noticed the rather disturbing sewer smell in part of the bar, as reported by another reviewer. What's that about? We also had difficulty getting our room temperature up to an acceptably comfortable level - 65 degrees is not my idea of comfy.Overall, it was not at all a bad stay, and we are looking forward to staying there again next year. I hope the city gets it's act together on the noise, though.
