We stayed here because we had tickets to the Civic Center and
wanted to be within walking distance, which we were. We were pleasantly surprised to see that this Bennigan's was still open and we ate dinner there Sat. night, which was convenient and good food and good service. The room was clean and must have been redecorated recently, very pleasant. The sad thing was there was a tile missing in the bathroom right behind the toilet and the base trim was coming off, which you noticed as soon as you entered the bath. The very nice room and clean bathroom was immediately offset by the one missing tile.
They had specialty pillows and there was a card saying if you wanted one to just call the front desk which we did on Sunday night. We were told that all the specialty pillows, down, were given out. We did call at 9pm but the hotel was pretty empty on Sunday. We were impressed with the large indoor pool but it was cold and the hot tub was not hot and the sauna was not working. The pool area was clean and there were towels.
The people at the desk were very friendly and efficient but the guest information desk was not open till 1pm and the people at the desk were not resources for the areas attractions or restaurants. All in all it was a pleasant stay, very clean and comfortable, King bed, desk, comfortable chair with ottamon.

Spent 1 night at this facility as part of a weekend away with wife - front desk staff were AMAZINGLY friendly and helpful - provided lots of tips on how to get the most out of my stay: (1) parking is free, if front desk validates the garage ticket (2) meals at adjoining Bennigan's restaurant are 25% off for Priority Club members (3) complementary hotel shuttle was available for rides to/from area attractions - room was on 4th floor of older part of hotel - clean, nice smell, well-decorated - pool was warm & clean - pool area was well-maintained - common areas of hotel (hallways, lobby, atrium) were well-furnished and well-kept - ONLY 2 NEGATIVES, and they aren't big ones: (1) we took stairwells a couple times to get some extra exercise - they were well-lit, but were nothing more than concrete & iron (2) parking for the facility is in neighboring garage which is not owned by the hotel - garage had VERY low clearance and was not overly well-lit

I had my worst hotel experience of the year when I stayed here. It started when the hotel directions from their website weren't correct. Apparently Peoria has completed some recent road renevations and things have changed. When I informed the front desk of the problem, I was told "that's impossible". After getting my key from the front desk I parked in the garage and then was forced to walk through several smokers so I could get into the hotel.

When I finally got to my room I was greeted by an HVAC sytem that wouldn't control the temperature, a shower that was either scolding or freezing, and a toilet that ran constantly and couldn't be fixed because there was a bar over it to keep the lid on. The worst part was a lack of lighting by the beds. The only lighting in the room was on the opposite wall. Once it got dark, you had to sit by the desk.

The only positive about this place was the food. I did get a good meal.

All in all, not a bad place. The staff have been friendly ( I checked in today), the wireless works good, lots of TV channels and the room is clean. I have not slept on the bed yet, but from lying on it it seems ok. The past reviews are pretty bad and I do not think it deserves those reviews, unless this place was very different before thier renovation.

There seems to be plenty of places to have a drink or a bite to eat close by.

I stayed at this hotel in early January, 2008. I found the room through Hotwire and was quite nervous after reading some scathing reviews, particularly on Yahoo. The party with whom I was meeting expressed concern when she heard where I was staying as well. The word around Peoria was that it had gotten so bad it lost its "Holiday Inn" charter for a while. However, the official web site for the hotel said that they had just completed phase one of their renovation and it seemed to address many of the criticisms I read.

In a nutshell: check in was easy, the staff was very nice and the room was just fine. It seemed clean and well maintained, and while the bathroom was not as new as the rest of the room (yet, that is phase 2 of the renovation) there was nothing wrong with it. The pool was closed when I was there (for renovation), not that I cared.

One minor knock - the continental breakfast was sub-par. But hey, it is the HOLIDAY INN in PEORIA.

I hope not to have to return to Peoria too often; but if I have to, I would stay there again.
