“Just sadly bad”

Radisson Hotel Peoria

Jun 7, 2007
2/2 found this review helpful

The room I stayed for a couple of days was just bad. And what's sad about that is that the area and the building itself is very nice. So, not sure why management can't renovate their rooms. And I was staying in one of the "better" rooms, for $179 I think

There's a long list of problems. I'll name just a couple:
1. Water in the shower was barely dripping
2. Out of four glasses in the room 3 were dirty and 1 was all in fingerprints but at least no mud
3. Only one pillow. was also pretty old
4. Interior is pathetic (reminded me of mid-range hotels in Russia with old 1980's furniture) with some stains on the couch
5. The floor bad-bad-bad. Cheap (and old!) motel-type floor carpeting.

We booked this hotel to see a concert at the Peoria Civic Center.
First.....the good
1. Outside of the hotel is gorgeous
2. Customer service was outstanding!!!!
3. Dinner and breakfast were both outstanding!!!!
4. Sleep number bed in room. Bed and pillows were very comfortable.
5. The members of Lynrd Skynrd, .38 Special, and Hank Williams Jr. were staying at this hotel. Although we didn't get to see any of them at the hotel........there were many who did. The tour buses were sitting in the parking lot. That was kind of cool.

Now.....the bad.
1. Cream colored carpets in the halls were covered in stains which made the hotel appear dirty.
2. Sleep number bed wasn't working. The maintenance man came up to bring us champaign so we asked him to look at it. He pulled the bed away from the wall and it was totally gross. Also there was so much dust on the top of the satin headboard that was attached to the wall. Looked like it hadn't been dusted in years.
3. Bathroom had nicotine stains on the ceiling. Just appeared grungy.

This hotel has a rich luxurious atmosphere with old world furniture and decor. The staff was friendly.....starting at the front desk, to maintenance, to staff in dining room.......that part of the stay was wonderful. The turn off was the grungy appearance of everything. They just need to use some elbow grease and replace the carpeting. It could be a beautiful hotel.

“Adorable, Spacious Room”

This hotel, previously Jumer's, is absolutely adorable! It looks like a little...Castle or Villa. Our room had stain glass windows, I don't know if they all do, but it seems like most did. That was a great touch. The wire connection to the internet didn't work, but the
wireless connection worked just fine. There are so many accents of adorability there! I entered through the restaurant and the detail of
Medival Times was everywhere. It is really a cute hotel unlike any I have stayed in, in America. Especially for the price. $89 a night! Our room was huge! I know so becuase the next night we stayed at the Mark Twain downtown and our room there was half the size and $30 more. Also the Radisson had hot water (which we couldn't seem to get in the Twain). I will definately stay here again. In fact, I wish
that we had stayed there longer, I wanted to take pictures of the art
that this hotel has, on the inside and the outside. The most un-midwest hotel in the Mid-West!

Wow, nice hotel. It was not new, or flashy; however it was wonderful. I felt like I was at home in England. (only the food was better here) I am immpressed with the service and the charm of this hotel. Some places are just waiting to be found. FIND THIS ONE.

What a charming place this once was and what it could be with some cleaning and maintenance work. Radisson spent $$ a few years ago on hotel when it took over but unfortunately went with lighter colored carpets etc... which show all the wear and tear. Should have stuck with the darker/wood/ castle theme that makes the place charming. We had visible stains on comforter, and sleeper sofa fabric. So many of sofa that we just made a bed on the floor for the kids as couch looked to grungy. Bathroom was clean with nice garden tub but we were located over the pool and choked on the chlorine smell all night. The air/heating unit is WAY old and filthy. The security card needs to be out in the parking lot not hanging around on the lobby sofa, although maybe he just needed a break from doing multiple jobs as he was the one to bring up the extra sheets/blankets for the floor bed. We had breakfast at hotel with our rate and it was ok. We sat at lovely table by the window looking at courtyard but also next to storage area with dirty/sour smelling high chairs etc... Service was a little slow, only one waiter that we saw. Same cituation as hotel... with a little cleaning and simple maintenance this could be like the special place it use to be!
