“A hotel with a great potential”

Radisson Hotel Peoria

Jun 5, 2008

I stayed here one night. Yes the bathroom is smaill but I see a great potential in this hotel. If you travel to other countries the hotel bathroom can be much smaller than here so no complaints. Yes the carpet was not clean, however, I think they are in a process of renovation. Hotel carpets can never be clean. My biggest issue in this hotel was that people were not comfortable with foreigners. I came to town for business and was shocked by my treatment here. My personal belief is that diversity and tolerance are very important for all of us. I was a bit disappointed in that sense.

I didn't book this hotel and didn't pay for it, so I don't complain much when a place is free. But if it was my money, I don't think it would have been worth it.

Positives: I was visiting Bradley University and the location was close, which was a plus. Other good things are the comfort of the beds, cleanliness and quality of the bedding and overall quietness of the room. Bathroom was clean. Everything was in working order.

Negatives: Carpeting was in poor shape throughout. Lots of wear and tear on the furnishings. The whole place had this weird castle/dungeon vibe. It just seemed weird.

Unless you get it free or very cheap, I'd consider other hotels in the area.

“Total disapointment”

I remember Jumer's from my childhood. It was the best place to stay in Peoria 30 years ago. But it has been sold recently.

They have totally stripped all things that made you feel like it was the bavarian castle that it once was as its previous life of Jumer's Castle Lodge. The castle feel is gone. Very sad.

We were given a room on the first floor with a view out our small window of a large industial dumpster overlooking deplatated houses. The room was very small with very low ceilings-which made it feel even smaller. The sheets & mattress pads were thin and pillings-which made them scratchy. The pillows were big and fluffy-one of the few nice things I can say.

The shower curtain had mold along the bottom seam. There was no chaulk around the sink so there was pink mold growing.
The carpet had cigarette burns on it-even though it was a no smoking room.

The carpets in the hall was very dingy with stains. Tiles around the Pool looked dirty. Workout room very basic.

It is listed as a 3 star hotel. More in the catagory of a 1.5 star. I paid $60 on priceline. I felt like that was too much.

“Slow slide into mediocrity continues”

Radisson Hotel Peoria

Mar 13, 2008

I've stayed at this property once a year for the past 25 years. It used to be the flagship of the Jumers brand. It was a Bavarian castle with many unusual antiques, suits of armor, a stuffed black bear, and German cuisine. At check in you could take a red delicious apple that were there by the desk in a basket. In your room there were 4 Fannie May chocolates to welcome you. First the chocolates disappeared, then they lightened up the interiors. Things got noticeably shabbier over time. When Radisson took over I hoped they would put some money into the hotel. They only painted everything white, stripped out the antiques, suits of armor, the black bear, and changed the menu to standard bland hotel fare. This last year they closed the main dining room. Made the bar into a restaurant of sorts. Went to a motel style breakfast buffet. All the carpets are filthy. There's just nothing special here anymore. What was once a "one of a kind" is now a sad joke of what it was. The employees try hard but get little suppport.

“Disappointing on a yearly stay”

The exterior of the hotel is very charming. The lobby is pretty, and the desk staff is accommodating and friendly. When we got to our room, we were surprised at how small it was. There was enough room for one queen as we thought we'd get) beds, a small window that opened (but had no screen), and a nice sized desk and armoire with TV and drawers. The desk had a port for an internet cable, but no cable. The front desk provided a cable to me, but only to find out the Internet connection did not work. I understand there's wireless connectivity in the lobby and some rooms, but I did not attempt to use those alternatives. Typical hotel room. The bathroom, however, was very small. I could barely walk in to close the door to use the WC. The tub floor had anti-skid dots that were stained black. We put a towel on the tub floor before showering..

Maid service was friendly,
Outside of the hotel, the street that dead ends at the property (Moss) had some of the nicest homes and property I've seen in Central Illinois. That was a sight to see.

I cannot recommend this hotel, and I'm surprised that it's a Radisson. As others have commented, I'd have expected more from that brand. Also I learned it was a Jumer's. I am familiar with the Urbana Jumers from 20 years ago, and it was a great hotel. Sad to say this does not meet our expectations.

Should we return to Peoria, I'll look for another alternative.
