“Ok place in a small town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

I asked around for nice places to go, I was directed here by a few locals, I have to be critical and say it was ok, not bad. I could go back if I don't find another place to call favorite.

“Very good steakhouse in downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

My wife and I went to Jim's on a trip a few years ago. The review I posted at the time got messed up so I took it down but wasn't able to copy and paste here for some reason. The date was not among those available on this TripAdvisor form so I picked 9/13.

So, just the basics. Jim's was convenient to our hotel. It's an old-fashioned downtown Midwestern steak restaurant with plenty of wood paneling, comfortable seating, and that steakhouse smell. The meal we had was above average and the service competent and friendly.

“Fantastic steak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

I had an amazingly good, well seasoned, bone-in rib-eye here that was truly medium rare, as I asked. Sooooo tasty! Also had a side of mushrooms and green beans that, although good, were nothing out of the ordinary but definitely one of the best steaks I ever had. The atmosphere is dark wood and leather, cozy and the live piano in the background was a nice touch.
The bartender could use a little work on her service and people skills. She wasn't rude but it seemed that customers were getting in the way of what she wanted/needed to be doing - not what you want when you are dropping that kind of coin on a nice meal.

Xenon bottom line: I'd go back and probably just get a table.

“once again a wonderful meal and superior service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

Just visited Jim's for a special family "Mother's Day" celebration on Saturday night. This is a restaurant you always expect and receive the best. We had 4 wonderful steaks and superior service. The waiter was helpful with menu selection, wines available and available for any questions. The meals were cooked perfect - we will be back again soon.

“Best place to eat in Peoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Since the site of the boys state high school basketball tournament was moved from Champaign to Peoria in 1996, I have been touting Jim's Steakhouse as the best (and only) place to eat in the River City. Since my wife and I always made a four-day adventure (shopping, dining, watching basketball) out of attending the state tournament, I asked friends at the Peoria Journal-Star to recommend the best place to eat in Peoria. Unanimously, they voted for Jim's. You can't ask for a better location, in the heart of downtown, just a couple of blocks from the Carver Arena to the west and the Holiday Inn to the east. Park your car on Wednesday and don't return until Sunday morning. We aren't the only ones to tout Jim's. On Wednesday and Thursday night, before the Friday tipoff, the restaurant is filled with coaches and news media and school officials, like a reunion. Everybody knows a good thing when they can smell it. Great steaks, great service, great atmosphere. Some folks never leave the piano bar. Sure, you can order a salmon filet or pot roast or prime rib or baby back ribs or spring lamb chops or spaghetti with meat sauce or Alaskan halibut or Orange Roughy or Lobster Tail or sea scallops. But this is a steak joint, right? Save the fish for Joe's Sea Crab. This is the place for steak...rib eye, filet mignon, medallions of steak Diane, New York strip, Porterhouse, steak Bruschetta, medallions of filet Oscar, top sirloin. If you are celebrating a special occasion or you are hungrier than usual, try the filet mignon and broiled shrimp with bearnaise sauce or Chateaubriand Bouquetiere for two or filet mignon and lobster tail or filet mignon with King crab legs. You'll be glad you did.
