“Africa just with bells and whistles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed at the lodge towards the end of our Mozambique visit. Nico, at reception, certainly understands the concept of happy tourists ensure positive word of mouth referalls. He went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed, when we needed it. Most beautiful sunsets! A nice room with a small mini bar - perfect! To enjoy traveling in Africa one should bear in mind it is Africa, don't expect the speed our service you would in e.g. SA, you will be disappointed, however, in turn there will be great small little extras. Go with an open mind and be prepared to practice some tolerance. Typical Mozambique - electricity may (will) fail you. Throwing your toys have no value instead go outside and enjoy the starry night with stars as bright and as close as we don't see them in the city! Although your photos, taken at Flamingo lodge, definitely will have your friends and family envious of your trip it certainly is an expensive stay compared offerings at similar resorts.

Thank you for your review. It is great to hear how someone appreciates the smaller things and enjoys the experience. Flamingo staff are motivated to give of their best in their particular areas of expertise and your appreciation will be passed on to the lodge as well as the staff.

The experience at Flamingo Bay was phenomenal, and I would definitely go back and recommend anyone wanting to go to Mozambique to consider it as a destination!!

Everything from the food to the service was nothing short of excellent.

The picturesque location, island style design and water-villa's should push this establishment into a four and five star rating - but a little atention to detail brought them down however. During our stay (late Jan 2013) the golf cart which shuttles guests along the long (repeat long) walk-ways was out of action. The publicised sea-food buffet was served on only one of our 8 nights and the rest of the meals were "nice" but somewhat boring, not really reflective of an establishment of this class. In most cases, dinner was a repetition of what was on offer during the one buffet.

The dive centre at nearby Barra Lodge offerred excellent and friendly service, on their own they deserve a 5 star and were as good if not better than the many others I have been to. Back to Flamingo, what was also disapointing was having nothing/little to do on rainy days. The available board games were all incomplete and unplayable and there was nothing else, not even table tennis or a pack of cards available. Management was conspicuously absent until Russel (F&B manager) returned from leave, perhaps this also explains the food issue. The staff themselves were wonderful - one was usually greeted with a smile and their service was efficient and attentive.

A little attention to detail by management would have made all the difference and we would have walked away "Very happy" rather than..."well, it was OK".

Thank you for your review. We were devastated to hear that your stay was not what you had expected and for this we can only apologise. We have taken all your points and will be following up on them to ensure that this does not repeat. The matter of seafood is a very touchy situation in our Inhambane area as there are times of the year where seafood supplies wane due to demand and supply. This is another area we are trying to address. We really do take your points seriously and will do our utmost to ensure that these areas are not only fixed but marketed better as we onlly want to meet and hopefully exceed expectation.

Flamingo Bay is truly sensational. We wanted relaxation and thats what we got. The staff are amazing - Mike, the lady in the shop who assisted with massages and forex and Eric really went the extra mile. The only disappointment was that nobody from management actually greeted anybody or interacted except for Cesar who was also awesome. The "City Tour" was also a disappointment- it was more like an expensive taxi ride into the city and then you are left to wander around aimlessly. We would definitely go back but hope that we see changes within senior management. last but not least, compliments to the chef - the food was out of this world.

thank you for your lovely review on tripadvisor. I am thrilled that we met your expectations and gave you the perfect wedding anniversary. I have taken note of the Inhambane tour that you did and will follow up what happened as your tour was supposed to be a guided one. please accept my apologies. I will also follow up on the lack of management presence as this is very abnormal. Again, please accept my apologies. We take a huge amount of pride and commitment at Flamingo Bay and will ensure that this is improved upon. We hope to have you back again for your second wedding anniversary!

A beautifully built set of bungalows on an amazing lagoon. Rooms are very private and very nicely finished inside. The lagoon is beautiful, especially at sunset. Staff are great at being attentive but not intrusive. Plenty of activities such as great diving, sailing and a beautiful beach within walking distance.

we have just spent 7 days at Flamingo Bay for our Honeymoon. It was amazing!!
the staff were sensational. The food and Beverage manager Russell was very helpful and looked after us. The waiters were fantastic and made us feel so special.
The only problem we had there was that there were hardly ever any cold beers, drinks or ice we know we went at the busiest time of the year but we also went at the hottest and a cold beer was very hard to find.
the activities were amazing and everyday was a fun eventful day!
overall a magical honeymoon, will definitely be back!!!

We were so happy to read your review on Tripadvisor. Our food and service is what we are known for and of course, the location helps a lot too! Russel is wonderful and has a really great menu, we are very proud. Over the December period, we had endless power cuts and water shortages and all the lodges in the area struggled with ice and refrigeration. For this, we can only apologise. The government is coming up with Alternative electricity solutions which will be rolled out this year.

Whilst on a road trip from Tete, Mozambique to South Africa back up to Tete, we managed to book into the famous Flamingo Bay Water Lodge. One word; AWESOME !

Its quite a drive to get there, but once you there it is paradise. We parked the car and didnt have to drive for the next three days. We were welcomed at the car park by a very warm and welcoming local. He took us to reception on a little golf cart along with our luggage. At reception the check-in was quick and easy.

The rooms were comfortable ! Beautiful view with tasteful furnitue (there is even a mini bar...). The only thing i have to complain about is the bugs in the tatch roof. Room service cleans your room in the morning, by lunch time the rooms are full of little bugs, but other than that there were no complaints.

Food, good. Drinks, good. Service, good. All in all, this is a very nice place to get away for a couple of days.
