“Quirky luxury and charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This is quite special. A marvellously peaceful Somerset retreat, beautifully decorated in a kind of country-house minimalism (ie country house without the sometimes oppressive clutter), with very good food and high levels of service. We stayed three nights and came away wonderfully refreshed. If you have dinner there (which you should if it's on offer) be prepared to sit round a communal table with the other guests. And be prepared to have your meal put on pause while Peter delivers charming but sometimes quite lengthy lecturettes on, for example, the correct way to serve cheese. It's a shame that lunch is not available. And it's harder than it should be to find out what the wine costs. It's all quite a wallet-emptying experience. But we have very warm memories of our stay here.

Here is something very special: exquisite in all particulars, and informed throughout by a welcome highly personal, idiosyncratic, thoughtful at every turn. The sense of occasion Peter and Orlando created for us was perfect for our celebration, and the food (including a wonderful ruby cake) and wines, just heavenly. We only wished we were staying longer.

Room Tip: All gorgeous, "Nathaniel Barnard" most gorgeous of all.

Our 40th wedding anniversary was made extra special by the attention that we were shown by Peter and Orlando. It was a fun experience topped off with exceptional food and great company.
The house is a joy please don't miss it

I was traveling to London for the Olympics and wanted an overnight getaway in the country. The only problem was that one night was not long enough to experience Langford Fivehead as it should be experienced. During my research, I was excited by the design aesthetic of the home, as well as the culinary offerings, and both exceeded my expectations. Peter welcomed our small party late in the afternoon with a tour of the home. We took a few moments to settle in and freshen up before aperitifs in the drawing room, then off to an amazing dinner prepared by Orlando. We love the communal table and had a wonderful evening with our other guests- the summer pea risotto, braised salt-fed lamb, local cheese course and the black pansy sorbet were all paired perfectly with appropriate wines. Our accommodations were marvelous, and we enjoyed a lovely glass of Madeira before setting off to bed. Breakfast was delightful with fresh fruit smoothies, freshly baked croissant, and I am still trying to determine whether the home-made vanilla yogurt was the best I ever had, or the eggs benedict! Regrettably we had to leave, but not before vowing to return for a week. Many thanks Peter and Orlando for such an incredible experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in Diamond Smugglers, which had Teasal across the hall for our teenager

I organised a surprise night away for my husbands 80th birthday. Just 4 close friends joined us for an overnight stay and we were all captivated by Peter and Orlando’s wonderful home and gardens. The meal cooked by Orlando was superb and was served with an interesting selection of wines that matched the food beautifully. I would highly recommend it.

This place is brilliant. It is a special place and I am kind of reluctant to tell anyone because I want to keep it to myself.
It has 10 rooms including the cottage. I have to say it would make a great place for a house party, a group of friends.
We had a stopover on our way down to Cornwall from Yorkshire but will return for a long weekend. I can't wait!

All you have read about this admirable place is true.
Peter and Orlando are superb hosts.
They have achieved a degree of perfection here that is remarkable.
The location is wonderful, a drop of pure bucolic Englishness set on the Somerset levels.
The house is a burnished wonder.
The gardens kempt but unregimented, with wonderful trees and shrubs.
The rooms have an understated beauty and are relaxing and comfortable.
This kind of apparently effortless perfection can only be achieved in fact by a great deal of effort, experience, and a professionalism worn lightly.
An altogether rewarding and strongly recommended experience.

Room Tip: You cant go wrong.
