“Fantastic service, staff, food, and room.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

This was our second stay at the Old Station Inn. Both times we took advantage of the great offer on Groupon. Both stays have been consistently excellent. The rooms have been clean, well decorated and more than we expected for the cost. They are stocked with tea, coffee, hot choc, biscuits and milk. The room also has a tv and hairdryer. No soap, shampoo etc which was fine as I prefer using my own even if it is provided. The pub is a traditional local pub. We sat and chatted with the friendly, welcoming locals. The girls serving us were friendly and chatty. As a vegertarian it's hard to get good, interesting, varied dishes. But here the food is so rich in flavour you can't help but love it. Eating in the carriage is a great fun experience, and it felt rather decadant. Again the service is just right. The girls have the right mix of attentiveness mixed with a suitably relaxed, no rush feel. They chatted to us which is unusual for younger waiting staff who normally don't engage with their customers. We had a starter and main course but couldn't manage a dessert. The portions are more than ample, in fact we'd say they are enormous. Even though we don't eat meat, the meat dishes being taken past our table looked delicious. This is way beyond normal pub food, it's on a par with a really good restaurant. I've read some of the criticism on this site and wonder if they went to the same place we did. A tip to everyone using Groupon is to read the fine print. Then you know what you're getting. This is for a room only, but with a bottle of wine in the price, how many other rooms can you get for this price? My advice is if you get the chance visit the Old Station Inn and find out for yourself how yummy the food is. The rooms are on a par with any hotel offering a room only stay. A walk around the grounds proved a surprise, a very large area with outdoor eating facilities (when we finally have our summer), and beautiful gardens to have a stroll around. Deb told us she's hoping to do this offer again soon, so we'll watch out for it, and we'll be back. Highly recommended.

What a warm welcome from Debbie the landlady when we arrived for our one night stay at the Old Station Inn. Nothing was too much trouble for her or her staff and she went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We chose the Sunday roast for our evening meal, which we ate in the railway carriage. The lamb was cooked perfectly and my other half had the homemade nutroast, which he said was really delicious. This all came with lots of fresh vegetables. There was only one downside and that was that the bed was not as comfortable as we would have liked. But overhaul it was a very good stay at The Old Station Inn.

Enjoyable evening in the railway carriage with amazing food and fine wine. Reasonable priced and recommend the Pork Hock. It was amazing and was worth going for that alone and the setting was beautiful. The lady running the venue was very nice and made you feel very welcome. Proper pub in the country.

Stayed here for a night with a Groupon deal, a good old fashioned pub, lots of quirky memorabilia
fills the pub, a good selection of real ales and a great dining experience in the carriage restaurant.
The food was very good. Our room in a building opposite the pub was spacious and very clean.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, will definitely come here again.

We stayed here as a family of 3 on a Groupon and couldn't of been more impressed, great location, good room size for the price you pay, the staff were fantastic and couldnt do enough for us - in fact its the best service we have had in a long time. Food was lovely and very reasonably priced! Dont listen to the haters on here, you pay for what you get - if you want the Ritz then pay Ritz prices! The train carraige is very original and we have reccommended this place to everyone we have spoken to about it!

Enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch at the Station. Portions were good and very tasty. I had the lamb and the other half had the beef, both of which were very good. I believe there was a choice of four meats for the Sunday roast. The service was great and we didn't need to ask for anything. Drinks were fine with a good selection to choose from. Looking through the menu and the specials board there is a very good range of meals to be had. Certainly enjoyed our lunch here and would highly recommend a meal at any time of the week. If your lucky or book ahead you can dine in the railway carriage which is great, especially for a special occasion. A very nice welcoming pub.

We have had a fantastic meal this weekendat the Old Station Inn, very tasty and beautifully presented. I had the mixed grill, and it was lovely. We dined in the bar this time but you can also (and have done) eat in the railway carriage, which is fantastic, especially for a special occasion. On entering you get a very warm welcome from Debbie, the landlady and very good attentive service from her staff. Rosie behind the bar that served our beverages was great. Great service with a smile. A previous reviewer who said it was ran by schoolgirls I think is really off the mark. We have dined here on a many occasions and have never been disappointed. Neville the chef and landlord produces some very fine meals, always well presented and portions of a good size. Also they have always got some good real ales on tap which alongside the good food is a real bonus. Will definitely be back.
