I have to add my rave to the many on this site and in the guestbook at Harvey House. Here are all the things I found perfect about the Harvey House experience, not just the setting and amenities:

The tiniest details are considered for my comfort and delight
The paint colors!
The extreme cleanliness
The furnishing and truly elegant, REAL DEAL high-end decor (not a middling, mass market attempt at elegance)
Gourmet breakfast - and the food is truly fantastic!
Complimentary wine and snacks in the evenings
Great bathrooms
In-room fireplaces
The low-key homey atmosphere
The unending amenities
The warmth and charm of the Oak Park Neighborhood, A REAL and delightful "home town" neighborhood 20 minutes from downtown Chicago!!

But none of this would matter if I weren't made to feel better than royalty. I am welcomed as a dear friend. I am made to truly feel at home. You can't put a price on the genuine warmth and caring that exude from this exceptional innkeeper, Beth Harvey. You get all this, and there's more! Beth is also a very professional and conscientious businesswoman, someone who truly understands and can cater to business needs as well as family and special occasion needs (I've had a business meeting there, too). Its really amazing and great.

    • Liked — The innkeeper is a gem. The best in the business. Everything else great flows from her perfectionism.
    • Disliked — Sometimes a bit far from downtown. 25 minutes by train or car if traffic's moving well.

The Harvey House is a lovely bed and breakfast in Oak Park, Il which is located just outside the Chicago border. The building has been wonderfully updated and the rooms are unbelievably beautiful. It is also located about 1 block from the train, which is convenient for jaunts into the city or other suburbs. The proprietor, Beth, and her staff apparently live by the motto "Your wish is our command" because anything we asked for or even mentioned casually in conversation became a priority. There was an abundance of fresh baked goods available at all times, and because Beth is a fan of organic and heart-smart ingredients, not only was everything delicious but healthier than your average snack. Breakfast is made every morning at a time requested by each guest (there is a sign up sheet where you note when you will be eating). Each morning meal is a gourmet presentation of fresh fruit, juices, and coffee, as well as whatever sumptuous dishes the staff decide on for that particular day. And another wonderful feature of this inn is that Beth allows guests to have their family or friends who may live, or be staying in the area, join them for breakfast. She is a very accommodating hostess and we will be staying there again and again for years to come.

My husband and I stayed at Harvey House in May 2007. We cannot say enough good things about our stay. The B&B is beautiful, our room was fantastic and the breakfasts were great. My husband does a great deal of travel and he said Harvey House is way better than any of the hotel chains he stays in. The owner, Beth, has gone to great lengths to make the place special...from the decorating to the special soundproofing she installed throughout the house...It's so quiet that you feel like you're the only one home. Beth was wonderful. She made sure I had my special dietary request of yogurt each morning and when the weather turned colder than we had planned (or packed for) she let me use her coat...without that my trip would have been ruined!!! Again, we cannot give enough praise for Beth and her hospitality. We highly recommend Harvey House. When we return to Chicago, it will be the only place that we stay.

My wife and I loved the plush bed and beautiful design of this upscale, Victorian-era bed and breakfast. The innkeeper, Beth Harvey, was very accommodating, and was quick to reply to phone calls and emails prior to our stay. All of the flooring was immaculately maintained tile and wood, and the room we stayed in (the Oak Park Suite) was fully furnished with love seats and ottoman, entertainment center, and spacious shower and bathroom with beautiful fixtures. For breakfast, we had puff pancakes with fresh fruit and caramel glaze, and ham and cheese scrambled eggs. We had a great trip, and would definitely return for a longer stay!

What a wonderful experience I had during my stay at the Harvey House Bed and Breakfast. I stayed for 4 nights (September 10-14 2007) and was in heaven. I travel 3 weeks out of every month for work and I have stayed in many, many hotels and bed and breakfasts throughout the united states and I must say this has been the best experience/place that I have stayed at.

The house is impeccable and very lovely. You have 24 hour access to the whole house. I stayed in the Oak Park Suite and it was just lovely and had a very comfortable bed. I did not feel like I was linving out of my suitcase, but instead felt like I was at home.

Don't even get me started on the breakfast each morning. I am not a breakfast person, but I have made an exception for Beth's wonderful recipes. She also prepares fresh baked goodies for a snack each evening.

Her staff is very courteous and very helpful and always have a smile on their faces. Beth is also very courteous and helpful and very friendly. I have gotten to know her and her daughter well this week.

I think I have found my "home" for the next 4-5 months while working in Chicago.
