Second time I have stayed here in less than 6 months. I was even more disappointed. I think the staff is great, attentive, they have always been a treat in what would otherwise been a flat out bust.
Travelled with teenage son and got a single at first in spite of request for double. But we were allowed to move immediately into a corner room overlooking the entrance. There were cracks in the windowsills to such an extent that we had ice on the water bottles in the morning. It was windy and even with the heat up all the way there was a constant cold breeze.
Kitchenette, refrigerator, etc. There were chunks of food in the sink, dust and possibly mold in the air vents that were clearly the result of sloppy cleaning. The coffee pot was still dirty and wet. I didn't call for cleaning because they HAD cleaned, and that was as good as it got apparently. I just had a drink and night-night pill and crawled into the (presumed to be just a dirty) sheets.
Last visit the in-room wireless was free and it is still called "free" wireless on their ads, but it is only free in the lobby which is non existent. Otherwise it is $10
Excellent location, things to do and see, very close to Metra to CHI.
It is a shame that Oak Park has only 1 other hotel, out of price range for many casual travelers.

it's a shame that such a wonderful area (beautiful architecture, plenty of restaurants, huge public library with free internet access, 25 minutes away from downtown by train) has such mismanaged hotel. I must admit I was truly impressed by the lobby. Enormous beautiful front desk, cosy little sitting area. Front desk stuff was very nice and helpful. But as soon as I started my way to the room my joy was disappearing rather quickly. The hallway stank and it seemed like it stank on every floor. Room was very dark . May be there was a reason for poor lighting conditions as it hid other imperfections like stains on a wall and a couch. Air conditioning system was so old that it hardly worked. Fan was making so much noise that I couldn't get any sleep. The price for the internet is $6 an hour, Oh boy. You might want to stay there only if you really have to and there is no other choice. Otherwise, consider, something else.

The Write Inn was a cozy place to stay. I really enjoyed the staff and the Location and after work walking around the area to the local resturants. The walk to the parking lot wasn't to bad. The step to the bathroom was a little weird. Would go back again.

I love this place. The Write Inn itself was awesome and the staff was very friendly. I am not from Chicago and it was my first time in the area and the entire staff was so quick to help me with directions, attractions etc. I don't know why anyone would have a complaint on this Place. It was awesome and I'm glad I chose to stay there.
