“1 year on and still a great stay”

Marriott Oak Brook Hills Resort

I have been staying at this hotel on business for over a year now and thought it only fair to counter some of the negative comments that have been posted here. This hotel is currently undergoing major renovations which will be completed soon and the transformation is incredible. The staff have just been outstanding and made life away from home very comfortable, even with all the renovations taking place. On top of this, the hotel has a superb golf course, modern gym facilities that include a two-lane swimming pool and a location that provides an easy 30 - 40 minute drive to downtown Chicago. A superb place to stay all round. I'm still staying there a year later as evidence of this!

“Really a Holiday Inn?”

I love staying at Marriott properties--they are consistently good across the range of brands. My experience was that this Marriott is the bottom rung of quality for full-grown Marriotts. The room was small, the bathroom tiny and the A/C ran hot and cold. The room reminded me of a Holiday Inn, and its been years since I've stayed in one. Finally, the staff at this resort was less than helpful. Maybe the mistake I made is that this resort is setup for corporate retreats and I was there on leisure.

We enjoyed the golf course on property and met an excellent golf staff. Next time I go to Chicago, I think I'll try Hyatt or Hilton hotels that are nearby.

The Internet connections are absolutely horrible. In the rooms and the lobby, they have free wireless connections. My room, on the 5th floor, was intermittently up and down. When i asked for assistance, they told me that my room is close enough to the antenna to work. However, they were working on the "configurations" and the system would be up in about 1 week. That's funny, i got the same exact answer during my last visit to the same hotel. Also, why would they have a configuration where some rooms are in range while others are not. They should have antennas throughout.

The conference rooms offer wired connections. However, they're not much better. The entire meeting was affected by dropped and very slow connections - tons of frustration in that room!

In today's world, a business hotel MUST have reliable high speed connections, even if they charge for it.

“Not as good as I expected”

Marriott Oak Brook Hills Resort

I travel about 150 nights a year and always stay at Marriott properties. I specifically chose this hotel because the Marriott website listed it as "New Property." Thus I arrived expecting a brand new hotel, and this hotel is certainly not....it's newly a Marriott to be precise.

The staff was very friendly and helpful but I thought the building and rooms were a little on the tired side. The furniture, carpet, curtains, bedding, etc. in my room were dated and certainly not typical of the quality you'd find at most Marriotts. It looked like the property was built in the 80's and has not had a redecorating since then. Everything was certainly clean and serviceable, but the place needed a freshening.

We spent the weekend at this hotel and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the furnishings and decor. The bathrooms in particular were fairly elegant. The staff was courteous and the weekend rate was quite reasonable for the quality of the hotel.
