Non Chicago natives may at first be surprised by the concept of the 'Chicago style pizza': which can be almost more like eating a deep filled pie than a traditional pizza. This style of pizza is unique to the area and anyone visiting really should give it a try, it has a very thick doughy base filled with an enormous amount of cheese and topping.
There a number of famous local brands which for years have been producing these deep, doughy pizzas but in all my years of eating them I think the Lou Malnati's brand is the best. I usually order from the Northbrook branch due to its proximity to my base but any of their outlets are all excellent.
Note that locals can get very invested in the debate about which of the famous chicago pizza brands is best, you should of course try them all in order to judge properly!
First-timers be warned: there is a lot of eating in one of these pizzas, even a small will probably be too much for one person.
