I was staying in the Northbrook / Wheeling area on business and looking for decent place to eat. I had seen Allgauer's on previous trips to the area but never made it in. The restaurant is connected to the Hilton on Milwaukee at Winkelman across the street from the Crown Plaza.

The steak special is great, for a fixed price you get an entire meal, Salad, entree with veggies, potato, steak,(12 oz ribeye in my case) and desert. They charge for coffee. Everything was very fresh and the steak was great.

I will be back for another Wednesday in the future.

We recently celebrated a 60th. birthday event for about 35 people and all were very impressed with the delicious brunch offerings. The food was tasty, fresh and beautifully presented at various stations which included a carving of the best roast beef, a seafood table loaded with huge shrimp and Alaska King Crab Claws and smoked salmon. The salads included a tasty shrimp, crab, three bean, pasta and fresh greens. The hot table had a good variety of traditional brunch fare and the best bacon and pork medallions. If you have room after the main dishes, you can select from a lovely selection of desserts and jello molds. There are no culinary flourishes or pretentiousness, just really fresh and delicious dishes.Our party was in a private room next to the brunch tables and the two servers kept the champaign and drinks flowing. The service was gracious and friendly and we were delighted with the whole experience.
The setting is lovely for dining and the connection to the Hilton complex makes it the perfect place for events with out of town guests, weddings and family events in their party rooms.
We will definitely return on a future trip to the area.

Not cheap or nouvelle cuisine, but consistently good. Hotel and restaurant make their living on events ie weddings and weekend brunches that draw crowds, so no bold culinary experimentation going on here.

The meal was very good. The service was decent as well.
