“great introduction to downtown Normal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Right up against the funky college vibe of a restored small town in Illinois, walking distance to ISU campus, in the heart of downtown Normal, complete with tasty restaurants and an awesome bookstore where you can get lost for hours 3 blocks away , an indy movie theatre, , not to mention a great family type bike trail AND the Amtrak station (bring your earplugs, except if you're like me and actually LIKE the train whistles, crossing dings and horns). Rooms easily accommodated a family of a mom and 2 adult daughters.in-hotel restaurant food beyond expectations and near Chicago quality. Parking easy and on-site. I couldn't believe valet parking for $5!
For people leaving at 4 am to catch a Chicago flight, there is a 24 hour diner restaurant 2 blocks away we didn't try.
Another plus- coin op washer and dryer!

Only 1 problem- at 2 am daughter had a stomach ache, front desk did not have any access to over the counter medicines and I didn't want to drive alone at night to an unfamiliar 24 hour pharmacy.

Room Tip: no matter where you are, train noise may be a concern. bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Thank you for the great review, there is certainly tons of things to do here in Uptown Normal. My desk staff should have sent our security person over to the 24 hour CVS located just outside our door for you. They will be sure to do this if it ever happens again.

I have to say this location shouldn't be called a Marriott. It is by far one of the dirtiest rooms I've ever stayed in. The rim below the toilet seat was dirty, the floor below the sink was dirty and full of long black hairs (I have short blonde hair) and the shower had the same long black hairs everywhere. We had glass on the floor over by the window and chair, we only had 2 bath towels and both soap boxes were set up with the other amenities, but totally empty. Not what we expected from the name Marriott.

My apologies for the room it was certainly an exception to the rule. Our housekeeping staff has been ranked in the top 10% of all Marriotts for cleanliness for four straight years. We have addressed the failure with those involved.

I travel almost every week for business and don't take time to leave a review on each hotel. I am a Gold/nearly Platinum member this year, so I can compare Marriott hotels. This hotel staff was pleasant and the concierge level attendants were helpful. It had the typical comfort of a king-sized bed, clean sheets and a clean bathroom. However, it lacked the fresh scents associated with The Marriott brand from the entrance, through the lobby, up through the elevators and even into the concierge level hallway. It had a stale (cigarette) odor (Maybe the vacuums require cleaning?). Everything was tidy and straight, but didn't seem to have that expected clean scent of a Marriott. Also, the temperature in the room was warm upon my evening arrival ; I suggest that the room-darkening drapes be drawn in the guest rooms and hallways during hot summer days to help cool areas. The maid needed to restock the coffee and tea bag services in room 726. They did have free parking across the street in an easy access garage (keep your room key for your EXIT) and there is a shuttle service to the airport if you phone ahead to the front desk. sadly, there is a train that blows its' horn at 5:30am just behind the parking garage and adjacent to the hotels entry. This is a nice "college town Marriott" but needs attention to first impressions for all five senses of patrons.

Room Tip: Light sleepers should ask for a room away from the train track/garage side. There is a skywalk from...

Thank you for your review. The town is working on making the area a quiet zone with no train horns. This should be in effect by mid summer next year.

Friendly staff, very clean room, restaurant and lobby area! Love the accommodations and jacuzzi tub in our room! It was luxurious! Room service was excellent as well and very accommodating to our three picky children. We were able to book at the last minute due to an unforeseen change of plans with no issues. They even upgraded us to a suite! The private lounge was very clean and had a wide variety of breakfast items. Staff that morning was very friendly and even had cartoons on for the kiddos! Very kid friendly and clean. We would stay there again any time.

Wonderful room, Bed was very comfortable. great breakfast, the server in concierge lounge very friendly and provided service with a smile! Made sure there was plenty for everyone and ordered more bacon and eggs when they were low. Taylor took great care of us. Will stay here again!

Our concierge lounge is the only one in town and consistently ranks among Marriott's best for service. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the TA faithful.

This hotel was extremely nice. The lobby area is beautiful and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and so helpful. The hallways were large and the rooms extremely clean. My daughter had an event at the University and we could walk to all the places we needed to be. Just around the corner there was a street of restaurants, theater, shops and boutiques. We tried the Greek restaurant (The Rock ?), it was fantastic and very reasonable. Parking for the hotel was just across the street in a garage. It is complimentary for those staying at the hotel. There is also a skywalk from parking to the hotel in case of inclement weather. As a travel agent, I have no problem suggesting this hotel.

We recently spent 5 nights at the hotel while attending a conference here. What a fantastic experience. We booked a roll in shower accessible room and it was very comfortable. I will forever rate future hotel rooms against this one. The bed was comfortable, the sheets very soft and the down comforter made you want to stay in bed.The hotel staff were all very polite and helpful. Each night upon returning to the hotel, my husband pushed my wheelchair into the hotel and went and parked the car. Every night I was asked by hotel staff if they could help me, many walking from another area to help. My only complaint was that all conference rooms were up a long ramp. You could not get there by elevator. You had to go to the ground floor and go up the ramp. It was impossible to be independent in the hotel for a conference. Also the service in the restaurant was very slow at any time of day and there was a long wait in the morning for the coffee counter.which made me it necessary to go without breakfast any days. The food at the conference made up for it though. This is a terrific hotel!

Room Tip: If you need a handicapped accessible room this is a rare find!

Thank you for your review and the description of our accessible rooms. The ownership took special care of making sure these rooms were as great as regular ones. The convention center does have only the ramp access and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
