“A lovely base in the hills from which to explore around Asti”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2010

I like Turin and the surrounding area, there's a lot to see close by, mountains, wine areas and the coast around Genoa, and Villa Sampaguita proved a very pleasant place to base a few days exploring, especially of the Asti and Barolo wine areas.

My partner and I chose Villa Sampaguita as it looked close to Asti but far enough out of time to be rural and we enjoyed our time there very much. Tim and Rina are genial hosts and run an excellent B&B. It's a quiet and relaxing place on the top of the hill with good views across the rolling countryside, and you can sit outside to have your breakfast and take it all in. It's also a working vineyard and small farm as well, which Tim will show you round on request. The room we had was very well appointed with some antique furniture from the local area. It's no surprise as Tim and Rina make their own wine that they know a lot about the regional cuisine and the food served up to us was excellent - Rina apparently runs cookery courses for some visiting groups. They also both know a whole lot about the area and were keen to make suggestions and explain how to get to places. We have very good memories of our stay.

One thing, you will need a car to get around, though Asti is not far away nearly everything requires some sort of transport to get to. The B&B is not difficult to find as the autostrada is only a couple of km away.

My wife and I and our daughter and son-in-law spent two pleasant nights as the guests of Tim and Rina. Although we have traveled extensively throughout Italy, this was our first stay at an agritourismo. As B&B operators ourselves in the US, we were expecially taken by the warmth and hospitality shown to us by our hosts--from the welcoming glass of home-brewed wine to the extra effort made by Rina to rise early on the morning of our 7:00 AM departure for the airport to bake fresh bread and muffins for our breakfast, despite our urging the night before that coffee would do. Yes, we would consider staying here again when our travels bring us back to northern Italy.

When we arrived we were charmed by the nice, rural garden an the surroundings of the villa. Little places everywhere to take a rest or to read.
We were impressed by Rinas knowledge of cooking. Especially the breakfast was superb with lots of things home made.
Tim told us every day new things about the region and gave us hints, where to go and what to see. This was much better than simply reading a guidebook.
We felt very at ease, everything was uncomplicated. We would like to return some day.

This was our second trip to Piedmont, but we enjoyed it even more than the first one. I believe it was staying in VS as the guests of Tim and Rina. Tim's recommendations helped us to enjoy Piedmont, and to find secret spots, and Rina is an excellent cook. We were lucky on the night we arrived we participated the dinner she cooked for a group staing in VS. It was superb , delicous adn the deserts really mouthwatering. However, I must admit the wines produced by Tim from his own winery were superb to accompay the dinner.
The location is perfect to embrace the nature, but what makes this place special is very warm and wellcoming hosts Tim and Rina.

Our family of five found Villa Sampaguita to be a perfect place to base our exploration of the Langhe Valley's many excellent wineries and restaurants. The two bedroom apartment in the villa was comfortable and much warmed by our excellent helpful hosts, Tim and Rina. English and Italian are spoken and high cuisine is offered in Rina's kitchen, not to mention the the villas signature vinos of Barbera and Bonarda. We really appreciated their many recommendations for wine tastings and food.

We had an exceptionally enjoyable few days in Villa Sampaguita with Tim and Rina who could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Our room was lovely and quiet with a marvellous view. We enjoyed Rina's terrific cooking in the company of two other visiting families who were also throroughly enjoying their time on the farm and its surroundings.Their young children were having a ball.Tim and Rina create a very special, family atmosphere, sharing their knowledge of and enthusiasm for the area. We would certainly have enjoyed a longer stay and would be very happy to return.

My second stay at Villa Sampaguita--even more fun (if possible) than the first 2 years ago. Tim and Rina are great hosts with a ton of personality, and the Villa a comfortable place with genuine charm. Opted for the entire Palio week program and thoroughly recommend it. Had some amazing meals both at the Villa (Rina is a superb cook who turns ingredients grown on the property into restaurant-quality meals) and at restaurants in the area (I especially liked Tacabanda). The Sagre parade was a lot of fun, the Sagre itself an experience not to miss, and the events leading up to the Palio as well as the Palio itself were all enjoyable. Also liked that we visited wineries new to me on this trip. I plan to be back, perhaps a little later in the year for truffles and opera and the Salone del Gusto in Torino.
