“Amazing place to stay witht the best hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We greatly enjoyed out stay at the Willard Richards Inn. Aside from the great rooms and great location, we really appreciated Shane and Heather taking the time to talk to us about what to visit and explaining the history behind the inn, including the amazing cellar with temple stones. They were the perfect hosts and anticipated our needs before we asked. The shared living room on the 1st floor is beaurifually decorated and was a great place to lounge and had a small fridge and microwave for warming food and a TV and DVD player with lots of videos for watching. We came to Nauvoo in December, right when it snowed, so there were very few people visiting the historic sites and Shane and his son were quick to get the snow cleared out of the driveway. We'd stay here again.

We stayed three nights (although we initially planned only two) in the Anniversary room, finally tearing ourselves away from Nauvoo to continue our reverse Pioneer Trail journey home to CT. Shane and Heather are excellent and very accommodating hosts, and so knowledgeable about Nauvoo's history and that of this beautiful and comfortable home. They gave us a great tour of the Inn, including the cellar, with its own intriguing story and artifacts. We had been to Nauvoo twice previously, and this is definitely our favorite place to stay there!

Room Tip: The Anniversary room has a spa tub and bathroom right there, while some other rooms (also beautiful...

My wife and I stayed overnight in the Nauvoo Room. What a great privilege to be able to stay in a room that has so much history. The history lesson alone was well worth the cost of the stay. Shane is quite passionate about the history of the home. His presentation really brought it to life. The room was clean and comfortable. We only wish we could have stayed longer. It is certainly an experience to treasure.

Room Tip: The Nauvoo room did have a view of the temple which was quite nice.

I have been to Nauvoo several times, but this was my father's first trip. We were there to visit his brother who is there on a mission. Staying right in Old Nauvoo was made it the best experience yet. The home may be from the 1800's, but the restoration made it an enjoyable stay. Be advised that there are stairs to all of the rooms, but my 80 year old Dad walks with a cane and he made it fine. Hot chocolate in the Dining room at night was a nice touch. Don't miss a tour of the Inn, It was actually one of the highlights of a wonderful trip. Next trip I hope to bring my wife and family here!

Room Tip: Nauvoo room takes 2 flights of stairs, but worth it. Richards room has a private bath, its just acr...

We spent three nights at the Willard Richards Inn and loved every minute of our stay. Our hosts were wonderful and just bent over backwards to make our stay as pleasant and comfortable as it could be. The inn is conveniently located near most of the interesting historic sites you go to Nauvoo to see. The Inn itself has a very interesting history. Be sure to ask for a tour.

We spent 2 nights at the Inn. Shane, Heather and their son Pierce were so nice. We had a wonderful room with a bath. It was so clean and comfortable. Shane gave a great tour of the house and the old wine cellar. I am still amazed at how warm the hand rail was as we were starting down into the cellar (102 degrees outside) and by the time we were in the cellar the hand rail was cold. They are a great family and it made our stay in Nauvoo a very special memory.

My husband and I recently made a trip to Nauvoo to experience the history and the atmosphere of that special place. The best choice we made was to stay at the beautiful Willard Richards Inn. Not only was their price exceptional ( a discount was given for the off season plus the third night was free), but the room was beautiful. It had a comfortable king sized bed with a private bathroom, including a Jacuzzi tub. They provide a little breakfast basket outside your room every morning. The Inn is clean, quiet and definitely historic. The owners are friendly and accommodating. We would highly recommend the Willard Richards Inn to anyone. Glenn & Dena Worster from Maine.

Room Tip: The Anniversary Room on the second floor is the largest and has a private bath. I did not see the ot...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Across the street from the Nauvoo Pageant stage, the Willard Richards Inn is the only accommodation located in the Historic District of Old Nauvoo. It is the actual property of the Apostle Willard Richards and full of history and stories from when the Richards lived here to after the Saints went west to settle Salt Lake City. A big part of the tour of the house is the wine cellar that was built in the 1860's out of the scavenged stones of the original Nauvoo Temple. This historic home is surrounded by the masterfully restored homes of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor and Wilford Woodruff just to name a few. Instead of simply visiting the historic sites, why not stay in one? The Willard Richards Inn boasts beautiful views of the Nauvoo Temple and is only steps away from the Nauvoo Pageant stage. Guests of the Willard Richards Inn also receive a complementary bicycle rental to make seeing Nauvoo as fun as possible. If you are looking to make your trip to Nauvoo an experience to remember, there is no better location in town to experience the history and spirit of Nauvoo. ... more   less
