First of all, let me say I rarely write reviews and I never complain to managers. However, my experience here was unacceptable and the manager I spoke with on check out was so dismissive, I'm afraid this is the only forum they respond to. My 13 year old son and I recently traveled to Naperville to visit friends. We chose Country Inn because we had just stayed at one in Ashville that was great. We were only in our room for sleeping and didn't take advantage of any of the amenities (pool, bar, gym) so I can't comment on those.
However, our room was barely acceptable for sleeping. We were staying in a King Suite and as others have mentioned, the rooms are older and the TVs don't get great reception. No big deal. Unfortunately, the temperature of the room was impossible to adjust to a comfortable level. Although we were traveling in August, Naperville was having a cool snap. The room was freezing! I turned off the a/c, but I still had to sleep with a jacket on.
The bathroom was dirty upon checking in (floor was crunchy when you walked across it because of the food (?) left spilled). Our toilet ran non-stop and when you stepped into the (dirty) tub you could see a good size hole in the wall above the lights. I know it was probably just where they changed light fixtures and didn't repair the wall, but all I could think was it was some sort of rat hole or peephole. I had to stuff it full of toilet paper, just to give me piece of mind.
There were other odd things about the room…like the TV in the living area that faced the door as opposed to the couch or the desk (and it was too large to turn it to watch). And the fact that there was nowhere for a second person to get ready while someone was in the shower (all I need is a mirror with a plug nearby to do hair and make up). Honestly, none of these things would ever cause me to speak to a manager.
What caused me to complain was that on our second night, the occupants of the room next to us spent the entire evening drinking and yelling profanities in their room and in the hallway. They were so loud that I felt like they were in our room! We saw them when we came back to the hotel at about 10:30. I would never expect them to end their party at that time of the night, but by 3:30 a.m. I had to call the front desk to ask them to help me. I believe they did send someone down. It didn’t end the party, but at least it quieted it down so my son could sleep (me, not so much).
The next morning when we checked out, the manager asked how our stay was. I told him that it actually wasn’t very good. Either he wasn’t listening to me or he chose to ignore me, but all he said was, “Great. Would you like a receipt?” I told him that we were up all night due to the party next door and he responded, “I wouldn’t know who that would be.” I mentioned my call to the front desk and he said, “I’m glad we could help.” Really!? No “I’m sorry for the inconvenience” or “thanks for letting us know…we won’t place another family next to those drunken idiots!” Had the manager been the least bit compassionate to our situation, I would never have taken the time to write this review. Had he been helpful, the review may have even highlighted their wonderful customer service…but unfortunately because he chose to ignore me so I never had an opportunity to see that.
