We have been going to the Dover Straits for YEARS. And it is always predictable: VERY GOOD!
So, a couple weeks ago, on Easter Sunday, we decided to have lunch at one of our favorite restaurants - and that's ANYWHERE that we've traveled. This restaurant just happens to be a short drive from our home. Good for us!
As usual, we had a booth in the bar. Why? It's a GREAT bar area: Cozy. Perfect lighting. A couple flat screens. And, of course, that never-changing nautical decor. Some people comment that the decor hasn't changed in years. Like it's going back in time to the 1980's. Well, it is! And we like it for just that reason. Stepping back into what many of us would call: "A Better Time." What's not to like?
We have had many meals here. And they have NEVER been disappointing. Steak. Fish. Poultry. All very good. For this particular lunch, we both had the Escargot for a starter. As usual: GREAT! If you enjoy Escargot, you probably won't find a better preparation/recipe - anywhere. Hot. Baked in garlic butter and served with garlic bread. DELICIOUS!
For entrees, we went with pasta dishes: I had the Jumbo Shrimp Fettuccine, and my wife selected the Sea Scallops Angelica. Both were prepared to perfection. Both DELICIOUS!
Of course, you can't have a meal at Dover Straits without mentioning the "Salad Boat," a cart with just about anything that you could ever want for/on a salad. The server plates the salad for you at your table, and goes through the selection of ingredients and toppings right there: "Would you like some onions/beans/tomato" . . . or whatever and on and on. With a nice choice of salad dressings: Always fresh. Always DELICIOUS!
Prior to lunch, we had a couple drinks. Top-shelf vodkas with stuffed blue cheese olives. Nice pours. Dover Straits has a great bar.
Finally, at this luncheon, our waiter was Miguel. He and his family have a long history of service and food preparation at the restaurant. They should all be proud of the fine contribution that the family has made to its success, over the years.
Dover Straits, with its pride in ownership, years of outstanding management and obvious care for both customers and employees, is a special restaurant.
