I lived in Morris, twice! R-Place Family Eatery is a great place to experience every once in a while. The decor is pretty cool, and the food pretty good. However, my wife and I had a couple of dissapointing experiences there.
Once, before we were married we had a late-night/early morning breakfast there. Being one of the few sit down restaurants open 24 hours in Morris, it was quite crowded with truckers, 2nd shifters, townies and teens. Being crowded, we had borderline rude service from the waitress--and the food took forever for us to get. Most irratating was the person we tried to talk to about the poor service just didn't seem to care.
Another time, after we were married, we took my inlaws to the Restaurant, and while, generally the portions are generous, my father in law tried the Chicken Strips--and his portions were rather puny. We also had some waitress problems on this visit.
Overall, it's a fun place to go and expeirence once in a while, or a fun place to stop if on a trip. They have the "Ethel", a huge burger that if you eat it all--you'll get it freee and get up on their hall of fame. I've always found the food to be good as well. And I would imagine, kids will love the eye candy decor.
If you've been to R-Place already, or looking for a more townie place--go the other direction on 47 and head towards town., not R-Place. There's a great Diner called the "Morris Diner and Pancake House," and the food is excellent, the prices are excellent and 99% of the time my wife and I went (we were regulars when we lived there, and when visiting family, occasionally go back for a meal. If Joanie's your waitress--tell her Rob the radio guy says hi!) the service was excellent.
My wife and I have some favorites including the Chicken Parm, Chicken Alfredo, Fried Chicken, Monte Cristo and the Pancakes and Hashbrowns! And I can't forget my standard--the Hot and Hearty Roast Beef! Plus, if you order their dinners--you'll get a taste of dessert included with your meal--a small bowl of ice cream, or a small slice of pie!
Also, you might be able to save a few pennies by heading down 47 and gassing up at the Mobil Super Pantry, or turning down Route 6 by the Jewel and Walgreens and going to the Casey's General Store. I can't speak for the gas prices at the Truck Stop, but the Shell right off the highway is definitely pricer than the gas stations down the block.
