The John Deere Pavilion is very interesting and lots of fun. Located in historic downtown Moline, it's in a very large, attractive, modern, vintage-style building.
Inside, there are examples of many kinds of John Deere machinery, ranging from lawn tractors to full-size tractors to a combine. The combine is HUGE - yours for "only" $500K+. Visitors are able to sit in most of the equipment, allowing them to get a sense of what it might feel like to operate these powerful machines. It also provides a sense of the complexity of modern agriculture and an appreciation of the hard work involved. There are also some antique tractors, which I particularly liked, and a very interesting display about John Deere's history. Until I visited the John Deere Pavilion, I didn't know that John Deere got his start making plows....
By the way, you can't beat the admission charge: free! Also, the staff are very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. They're available to answer questions or just chat about John Deere.
When you're finished at the pavilion, be sure to check out the John Deere Store next door. It's a great place to pick-up a John Deere-themed souvenir or just walk around and check things out.
Overall, the John Deere Pavilion is highly recommended. It will appeal not only to John Deere fans of all ages, but to others too. It provides an excellent opportunity to learn about this fascinating historic company, which is a great example of American capitalism and entrepreneurship, and to see amazing machinery up close that most of us only ever get to see from a distance.
