We like Hamptons--price, comfort, good breakfasts. We look for them whenever we are traveling. We did not have a good experience with Mattoon's, though.
First, avoid the steakhouse that is nearby. We ate dinner there, and my husband noticed his steak tasted a bit off. He wasn't sure, thought it might be an odd flavor in the sauce, so he ate most of it. Big mistake. He started throwing up about two hours later, with problems at the other end starting an hour or so after that. This wouldn't be the Hampton's fault, except the toilet didn't flush. We called down, and they said they would bring a plunger when they found it. After about an hour I went down to the desk--they still couldn't find it and other third floor bathrooms were having the same problem (hopefully not with the same issues my husband was having). He started to go to the lobby every time he needed to do some business (every half hour or so), and I couldn't sleep because the room smelled bad. We asked for another room about 2 am, and the clerk gave us one that had been reserved but not checked in. A hour or so later (after we were both finally asleep) a little girl walks in our room-apparently the clerk forgot that he had given away the room.
Hampton Inns advertise a policy that they will refund if things are not right. We did email them, but they never responded.
The clerks there were nice, if ineffective. Everything else was fine, and hopefully they have everything corrected--but if you have any toilet problems I would immediately check out, call a manager, call corporate headquarters--something!
I have stayed at another Hamptons since, but I'm not so brand loyal anymore.

Everything about this hotel is very nice and it appears to have recently been renovated. Hallways are wide, with light colored wallpaper and lots of indirect lighting, making the hotel very pleasant and attractive. The hotel has three floors with an elevator. There is also a guest computer in the lobby. The hotel is located just off the Interstate, with a variety of restaurants at the same intersection, making the location very convenient and very good for travelers.

Our room with a king size bed and sitting area was comfortably large. Decorations were very nice. Our bed was very comfortble and our pillows were good. Towels were large and fluffy. Everything was very clean. All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful with restaurant suggestions. The breakfast room was large with all of the standard Hampton Inn items. and the morning we were there included hot biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and sausage.

Everything fully met our expectations for a Hampton Inn and we would stay here again.

My expectations were not terribly high going in, but aside from one big customer service lapse, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was.

First, the good. Room was in good shape, typical Hampton Inn stuff. But it appears that this one (and maybe others?) has gone through some upgrading recently. High speed internet is free, bathroom has newer appointments, lots of little things were just a bit better than you'd expect. Desk personnel were friendly and helpful, and fulfilled all my room requests on check-in. The pool looked nice. Breakfast in the AM was pleasant. And the price was very reasonable.

One major bumble by their desk personnel, though. At about 11pm, I attempted to set a wake-up call. I called the front desk about a dozen times in a span of about 15 minutes, and it was continuously busy. I then tried to call the hotel's outside phone number, which rang but went unanswered on each try. Frustrated, I went to the front desk, which appeared unoccupied. After yelling for anyone who might be around, the desk person came out from some back room, and I explained the situation. She said she usually does laundry at night, and must not have heard the phone. Mind you, when she came out, she was ON the phone which was in her hand. I suspect she was just babbling with a friend or something, but in any case, it was quite frustrating.

So, what would have been 4 or 5 stars on this scale becomes 3. If you avoid this particular pitfall, it should be a pleasant stay.
