I knew this wasn't a 4-start hotel, but it was substandard for even a 2-star:
* The mattresses were worn out - it was like sleeping in a black hole.
* The room was only slightly larger than a standard 2-bed room, even though billed as a "suite" -- the couch and desk were separate from the beds, but there was no room divider and you couldn't see the TV from the couch.
* The elevator didn't work about half the time. You never knew when you got on whether the door would re-open or not.
* Previous reviews regarding the chlorine level at the indoor pool were right on. I sat in the pool room with my kids for 30 minutes or so but had to leave when the burning in my eyes and nose became intolerable.
* The hot tub didn't work about half the time.
* Maid service was spotty at best.
* I had to go get the plunger myself to fix a stopped up toilet - called the front desk and that was the only solution they offered.
* The "Fresh and Hot" continental breakfast consisted of frozen Jimmy Dean sausage biscuits, cereal and pastries. Neither hot nor fresh.
* "Free wireless internet" didn't work in my room, even using the Linksys bridge provided by the hotel. I had to sit in the lobby to get any kind of internet connection.
* Not specifically related to this hotel, but for those unfamiliar with the Chicago area, Lombard is *way* out in the suburbs. It's a 45 to 90 minute drive to the city no matter what time of day, even though you're only 20 miles away. Wish I had known that in advance.
The hotel was clean but run-down looking, the staff was friendly but didn't go out of their way to be helpful. Overall, it was just your run-of-the-mill Comfort-brand hotel, though definitely below average. I wouldn't stay here again, even if I had business in Lombard. And certainly not if I was planning to visit downtown Chicago.
