I spent 3 nights here at the end of April 2007. The hotel is the older style RI layout, which, honestly, I prefer over the newer, one-building high rise style.
The place supposedly was redone recently-finished within the last few weeks. The rooms appear to be in fairly good shape. Could have been better vacuumed and there were lots of little things I noticed, but nothing too bad (mainly a few little dings here and there.)
Breakfast was the usual Marriott select-service hotel food: waffles, egg patties, sausage, breads, etc. Tasty but nothing special. At least they had a better than average variety.
The bus stop is right across the street. You can walk to Yorktowne Center for shopping and dining...2-3 blocks. Also, several new shops and restaurants should be opening in the area in the summer.
Also within walking distance is a Jewel. About 1/2-3/4 a mile walk, but most of it is on sidewalks. A catholic church is about 4-5 blocks away walking. The bus (313) stops within 1 block of each of those locations.
In front of Jewel is a fast-food type place called Culvers. They have hot dogs, burgers, chicken, etc. But the best thing is frozen custard! MUCH better than regular soft serve. Check it out!
My main complaint with the RI is NOISE. Noise from above, next door, outside. (I can deal with outside noise but the people over my head sounded like they threw a dozen 2 x 4s down the steps in their room!) ALso, if people in neighboring rooms are cooking any sort of smelly foods, you can smell it in your room! YUCK! Cooking etiquette please people!
There is a nice Bar-B-Q area with 2 gas grills and a couple picnic tabels for guests' use. And I took advantage. I love to grill!
All in all, I've been in worse, but this place was OK. Free parking, pretty easy to get around with public transportation and a pretty friendly staff. I would give it 3.5 as out of 5 overall
