Just returned from the most wonderful holiday, the accommodation at safran was amazing and we could not have asked for more. Belinda is very helpful and popped by regularly to make sure we we ok. The village is lovely - really removed from the tourist resort but n,y a 10 min taxi ride away. Would recommend

We were just, my partner and I, at Dar Farah for a few days, but that was enough to make our Djerba stay an exquisite break from the gloomy skies of Paris in November. The place is a traditional djerbian house, decorated and furnished with taste, with three big rooms and a wide kitchen and living room. One cannot compare the feeling of absolute liberty you experience when getting out of your room, you can jump and swim into the pool, in absolute privacy. We recommend that you treat yourself at night, in the courtyard, in the smells of the jasmine tree, with a delicious couscous cooked especially for you. The village is far remote from the agitation of the tourist coast, and yet very accessible from anywhere in the island. The hosts are so nice that they make you feel at home instantly, while totally respecting your independance.

From the moment you enter the courtyard, you can tell you have entered a very special place. The owner has put her heart and soul into this hidden treasure. Removed from the tourist zone, but not far from the main town or beaches, it is in the middle of a village for the truely local experience. While the place is special and very comfortable, it is the people that made the experience. From the owner to the locals we had dealings with, everyone went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and accomadating. The people and place are very special. You wll not regret making the decision to include this amazing destination to your travel log. It is without hesitation that I recommend Dar Safran, Belinda and her local staff. You will truely have an amazing adventure!

You will find this jewel in the middle of an active community (you can see the children playing nearby and often hear their laughter, and on Sundays there is a local market a few roads away), removed from the tourist zone. Upon entering you are immediately enchanted by the private courtyard with pool -- this is truly a place to relax and smell the jasmine! Beautiful in its simplicity, this is the ideal place 'to get away from it all' and we could not have been happier with our accommodation and the tranquility.... On more than one occasion we actually chose to stay home rather than venture around the island. We were especially delighted to have the services of Rose who prepared and delivered a meal for us our first night there, allowing us to get settled and simply enjoy our surrounds.
The place is wonderful, but what really makes it special is the people. Our arrangements were made directly through Belinda (we started planning this trip more than a year before) who was very responsive and engaged, and our only regret is that we did not have an opportunity to meet her in person. In her absence, we were delighted to make Ridha's acquaintance. He was so generous with his time and thanks mainly to him, our Djerba experience was 'one of a kind'. Ridha showed us around and introduced us to several of the locals which made our stay so much more authentic and one we cherish. He is just such an interesting person and someone you really wish you could spend more time with....
So, as I reflect on our recent stay, I think of the house as being a labor of love (with all the special touches) and Belinda and Ridha as now being our friends.

Room Tip: There are 3 separate suites and each is special in its own way, but I liked the upstairs apartment w...

Superb place. Exquisite taste. Absolute tranquility. Great host (thanks Belinda!). What else can you say? We just spent dream holidays at Safran with our family with our 4 kids. Safran is the best place to enjoy the island without being with a pack of tourists. You can enjoy absolute privacy in a charming environment and live a real djerbian village experience. Last tip: do not even rent a car. Use the yellow taxis, they will take you to the beaches for 3€ a drive!

This was my first trip to Tunisia (Canadian temporarily living in Paris). I spent 4 days (maybe too short) with Belinda who showed me many of the wonders of this location. At the Menzel I marvelled at the beautiful combination of colors, textures and all the fine details that Belinda used when she restored this home to create such an enchanting place to stay. Belinda is the most creative person I know so believe me every small detail is a pleasure!! I loved the privacy that each room provided so that you could envision sharing this unit with another family or friends if you wanted to go with a larger party. The other aspect is that you can achieve the best personal combination of your own meal preparation or having someone cook in for you or go out. We spent most afternoons at the beach (short drive) which were truly restorative. The beach was incredibly clean and the water so warm!!! I noticed a couple of windsurfers and kiters, so you could add in your water adventures if you are inclined. Of course the photos of the camels were a hit back home... It was really hot while we were there but we ventured to the souk which was both interesting and rewarding (found a few small treasures)!! Each late afternoon we had a cocktail in the shade / dusk at the menzel listening to the sounds in the neighborhood (prayers?? or call to prayer?) That was another first for me. Thanks a ton Belinda for this wonderfully restorative vacation experience!!! I will definitely be back !!! .

I spent two weeks at the stunningly beautiful Safran Menzel which has been meticulously restored and decorated using local works of art and decor. Belinda was extremely friendly and helpful with providing the local history and recommending restaurants, local events and sightseeing locations. This Menzel is very close to beaches, fruit and vegetable stands. The Sunday Market which is less than a block away, is a must see. I spent unforgettable days on the beach riding horses and even a camel. I would highly recommend this destination. This was by far the best vacation I have ever had.
