“Call it a cheesesteak”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Dined here for lunch a few weeks ago, and wasn't favorably impressed. Pretentious atmosphere, with an overt tinge of arrogance greeted us at the door in the form of a question, "do you have a reservation"? We're talking lunch on a weekday. Nonetheless, I ate at the bar, ordered the beef with Brie. It turned out to be a lot like the beef and cheese we used to get at Shelton's which was formerly the best dining spot ever in Ravinia. Being from Philly, the sandwich tasted like a pretty decent cheese steak, except for the bun, which was not toasted (it shouldn't be), just a couple of days stale. Stale bread. C'mon people. You can do better. Perhaps the manager needs to spend more time on the bread line than responding to every Trip Advisor review. If you really care, buy some fresh rolls every day, and then just drop the pretense and call it a cheesesteak, even though us brother lovers know you won't find a good cheesesteak west of West Philly. .

You are so correct, lunches here are rockin'. Happy to hear you liked our version of the "cheesesteak sandwich". Chef spoke with the kitchen to make sure they are diligent in making sure each plate that leaves the kitchen is spot on.

“Flavor Extravaganza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

RESERVATIONS!!! Even for lunch. This place is hoppin! We arrived at our reservation time and were immediately seated. Prompt attention by our waiter brought drinks and flatbread. My girlfriend had been there before so she recommended a few dishes.

Let me start with those truffle polenta fries. Next time I would recommend an order or THREE! They were incredible. We devoured them. I am not a fan of polenta and wasn't paying that much attention when we ordered. Hard to believe these were not potato. Unbelievable. Extremely flavorful. Don't forget to order the aoli dip too!!!!

Sichuan Green beans drizzled with fish aoli sauce. The very fine french beans with cashews to boot. Divine! We used the remaining sauce to dip with the flatbread. YUM

Roasted Beet Flatbread with Beet herb goat cheese/arugula/fennel/olives/lemon truffle dressing. Bursting with flavor.

It was my birthday and we had told them that when we made the reservation. Dessert special was a lemon tart with fresh raspberries and a tart raspberry sorbet. Very delicious.

I cannot wait to return with my husband. Very romantic little joint.

“Great food, friendly service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

Six of us had dinner here to celebrate a retirement. I found the service to be excellent (thanks to Dalia!) and everyone was very friendly. We got there early on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant soon filled up (it's quite small). We ordered from the smaller plates and shared. The duck confit was great, as were the roasted beets, kale salad, Branzino--everything except the calamari. That was extremely hot and spicy. Other than that I found the menu and combinations of flavors (and presentation) to be interesting and creative. Great experience!

Thank you for celebrating with us! Dalia was given a copy of your review and also says "thanks". Chef received the feedback on the calamari as well. We look forward to your next visit.

“They dream they're in Michelin”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Very disappointing. You wait in line for nothing. Worse is the snobbiness of the service. This type of attitude may work in NYC but not in Highland Park. Example: Menu referred to Leeks being included in the entrée. When it arrived, I asked where are the leeks. With disdain, I was told it was in the sauce. There are too many other enjoyable restaurants.

“Crowded, mediocre service, good food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

Went to Abigail's for a business dinner. Had to wait at the bar for a table. Decent wine menu although overpriced. After being seated we weren't given menus for about 15 minutes until a waiter came to take our order. Food was good - kale salad and short ribs were tasty. Service could be improved. Overall pretty good.

We appreciate your feedback, it is important to continue to improve as we grow. We are looking into why you were not seated with menus, they are printed daily so we will make sure that our par is increased. Happy to see you enjoyed the short ribs...they are a popular item.
