“What an amazing resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

We spent a week at Niyama in late March and had a fabulous time. We fully agree with the review written by bags99 about the level of luxury and service provided at this beautiful resort. The staff were ever so well trained, attentive and pleasant and we were treated like royalty.
The food in both restaurants (Epicure and Tribal) was exquisite and beautifully presented, comparable to Michelin starred restaurants anywhere.
The snorkelling and diving, accompanied by the marine biology team, exceeded our expectation. We also enjoyed the informal fitness sessions run by Swapnil (tai chi, yoga, kick boxing, aqua aerobics, etc.)
Hatti K writes about construction on the island. There was some work but quite honestly this did not affect our holiday experience at all because it was going on in the far away parts of the island.
A huge Thank You to Brian, our butler Imran and the entire team for making our stay so special.
Libby and Martin

Room Tip: We had a beach villa with private pool and we think that is the best option to go for.

We just arrived back from a one week holiday at Niyama (end March until early April 2012). While we share the impression of the two earlier reviewers that Niyama is perfectly designed and has a lot of potential we were surprised that the earlier reviewers did not mention some facts at all:
- More than 50% of the rooms were not finished at the time of our stay (some villas even need significant structural works), therefore large amounts of workers are around and making noise
- 50% of the guest island is fenced due to construction works
- Bulldozers and excavators are driving around

To sum it up: Excellent concept and design, but currently not fully delivering on what it is promising. High prices create high expectations. Despite there are some “opening deals” (7=5 and free meal plan) we strongly recommend to wait some more months (!) until they are really ready.

More details below:

Island: The resort consists of two connected islands – only one of the islands can be used for guests at the moment, the other gives home to building workers and machines. The “guest”-part of the island has beautiful vegetation and beaches but can at the moment only be used 50%, as the rest is shielded behind construction fences. If you like to walk along the beach, that still leaves you 15 minutes walking time from one fence to the other. We recommend to bring swimming-shoes with you due to many sharp-edged corals in the water. For snorkelling we recommend to use one of the boat trips, as there are very few good sites close to the beach.

Rooms: We rotated between different rooms, all perfectly designed and we really liked all of them. The Beach Pool Villas head to the beautiful beach with a private very green and nice garden and pool and have a private outdoor bath. The water studios offer even more privacy, whereas swimming is only possible at high tide. The deluxe water studios offer an even better view of the ocean plus a private Jacuzzi (not yet working)

Restaurants: Overall the food is good, especially at the Tribal restaurant where they serve African and South American style meat dishes. The Epicure restaurant serves excellent breakfast and an average quality buffet dinner. The Edge restaurant was still under construction and therefore closed. We also had a private BBQ which was really nice.

Well where do we start? From the second we arrived in Male to the second we left Niyama we were completely blown away!!!
On arrival in Male we were met by two members of the Niyama team who quickly whisked us off to Niyama's private lounge while we awaited our sea plane transfer to the resort. The lounge was modern and chic with all the mod cons, a full selection of fresh food and drinks and if you are feeling really lagged you can take them up on a complimentary head and shoulder massage (nice touch).
After the amazing 40 minute sea plane transfer we arrived at Niyama and were met by the General Manager Brian and a few other members of team Niyama who greeted us with cold towels and refreshing drinks, just what the Doctor ordered. We had been travelling from the UK and were in desperate need of a nice cold shower and a change of clothes, we needn't have worried as Brian introduced us to Imram who would be our own personal butler for the duration of the stay, who was waiting in his buggy to take us to our Beach Studio with private pool to check in.
We opened the door at to studio number 8 and were both truly amazed. The room itself was beautiful , the attention to detail, the space, the facilities which included your own personal Deli, a huge flat screen TV connected to a Bose surround sound system with iPod dock station and my fiancées personal favourite the complimentary mini tubs of Haagen Daaz, replenished daily :) Not forgetting the huge outdoor bathroom now this was unbelievable, I've never seen anything like it pure luxury, pics to follow:)
Then there's the outside space "Wow" your own private decking area with a Maldivian swing, a table and chairs, 2 ultra modern sun loungers and a stunning private, good sized pool. Oh and how can I forget the view of the turquoise, crystal clear Indian Ocean. The most beautiful stretch of water I have ever seen in all my life and I have seen quite a few .........just truly Awesome...."Oh how I wish we were there now"!:(
The choice of food includes Epicure which is the main buffet restaurant for both Breakfast and dinner which overlooks the large infinity pool and out to the beautiful ocean. Epicure offers different themed nights eg European , Maldivian , Far eastern etc. Don't be put off by the theme as the food is exceptional and there is a great array of dishes, Delicious. Alternatively there is Tribal there A La Carte restaurant which is a mix of Argentinian and African grills, a must while you're there, not just for the food but for the design of the restaurant.....you have to see it to believe it. Also theres the beach bar Dune where we occasionally ate, Dune offers a great variety of freshly cooked food or if you just fancy a quick snack there's the Deli which offers fresh sandwiches and homemade cakes and ice cream.....mmmmmmmm.
You can choose to do nothing but stare at the ocean, the white sandy beach and the beautiful blue sky with a cocktail in your hand, made by Sanjeewa and Sarie at Dune (2 lovely people who made us feel really welcome everyday always smiling and happy to see us) :)))) Or you can take part in the many water sports or day trips the island offers. We took a trip over to Vala Island (Niyamas private island) to snorkel around the house reef a must do. We had a fantastic day thanks Alan and Luke truly memorable. If you take a trip to the island make sure you take the Dhoni boat, a traditional Maldivian boat owned by Niyama.... Awesome!
In the evening after dinner you can choose to chill in you're villa or pop upto Fahrenheit the rooftop bar for a few late drinks and a selection of music spun by Niyamas own resident Dj Wu Chang a great guy from the US, who plays 9 till 11 most evenings. Not forgetting Fahrenheit is also amazing for watching the sunset.
We also got to stay in a water studio with private pool while we were there. Again we were both blown away, experience of a lifetime. The view in the morning when you woke looking straight out to the ocean was breath taking.
I could go on and on and on with how Amazing Niyama is and how we both enjoyed our stay but you truly have to see it to believe it. If you are thinking of going please do as we can't wait to go back!
We would like to say a special "Thank you" to.....Brian, Alan, Imran, Sanjeewa, Sarie, Nani, Luke, Tina, Wu Chang, Dino, Dimitri and all the staff that we had the pleasure in meeting we can't wait to see you all soon and "Thank you" for a truly amazing holiday x
We Hope you find the review helpful we will be uploading some pics very soon, we only have 930 to choose from ha ha. Believe us you won't get bored of taking pics at Niyama it is picture perfect!!!!!! Till next time Ryan & Clare x

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for the Studios with private pools.

Niyama is a genuinely refreshing re-invention of a Maldivian resort. Whilst there is everything that you would expect from a top end island retreat – great service, yummy food and dazzling natural beauty – the team behind Huvafen Fushi have taken great care to create an environment that is fresh, surprising and unexpected.
