Description: Phone is 618-943-3394. Locally owned and operated Italian deli that's been in business for about 100 years. They don't advertise much and seem to rely mainly on local knowledge. Great Italian beef and other sandwiches. Pretty good cannolis.

“Custom steaks to grill at home, lunch there or to go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

A Herrin born and bred lady introduced me to Louie's -- in a town that is Italian in heritage, an Italian butcher shop, deli and restaurant is a wonderful mix of all you need to release your inner chef -- or have them cook for you. The Italian beef that they prepare is absolutely wonderful and has been on many a buffet we have done. If you're in the mood for an Italian beef sandwich, you can have it to go or can have it in the dining area.
We're spoiled with the custom beef -- when we've wanted to say thanks to our construction crews for a job well done, we've ordered steaks from Louie's -- and they have been fantastic every time. It's a butcher shop with Italian deli meats too. In the deli area, you'll find lots of specialty items for Italian cooking. They've done a great job of putting all these functions in a store that doesn't feel like a store -- it must be the exposed brick wall and all the decorative painting! I wish it were closer to my home -- I'd be there once a week! Check out the can

“OK, you might need to be a local to love this place....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2012

LOVE Louies. Been going there for 40 years.

Great italian sandwiches. Great deli.

Closest thing to the "Hill" in southern Illinois. I go for salami and cheese on a hard roll.

LOVE THIS PLACE! LOVE IT!

Must haves - hard salami & salameats. Louie's meat trays are perfect too for parties & entertaining. Also highly recommend their brand seasoning packet for Italian Beef. Try all these things, you'll be glad you did.

“Has a College Dive Feel to It”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

We enjoyed our visit to Louie's P&R. Coming from NC originally, where I spent some time at local college area small restaurants and delis, it was reminiscent of those types of restaurants. The food was good. The menu is somewhat limited, but if you want a good sandwich on fresh baked bread, this is where to get it. The staff was friendly and answered our questions since this was our first time trying the restaurant. One thing I did like is the little grocery area. We purchased a dried soup mix that was really delicious when we later made it at home. The prices are reasonable also.
